I recently decided to put one of my new harddrives into the thing and reinstall windows since it'd been close to a year from the last format/install cycle (and quite frankly that's when my RAID-0 drives both died

This sounds very familiar. It's exactly what I had happening to me after I put Vista on this computer, though you lucked out in getting a couple days of operation out of it before things went to shit. It was mostly websites for me; I could use one three or four times, then it'd get blocked. You'll notice that you can still ping those blocked sites from the command window, and that you'll get access if you use the IP address instead of the URL
