The O.C Series Finale

The Series Finale was great. Not best I’ve seen, that kudos goes to Six Feet Under and I doubt any program will better that in the near future. But the show was wrapped up very satisfactorily.

The previous episode was wonderful. I mean Injured!Ryan? Can’t get better than that! Plus the Ryan/Seth was excellent. Seth’s verbatim on old characters and incidents in his list was great. Loved the fade outs and loved the feel good ending when they all walked out of the hospital together (though I don’t get why Ryan was released so soon. Sure they had patient overload and a shortage of beds but he had a pretty bad wound there and only just scored a blood transfusion!). The only annoying part was the girls. I hate squealing girly girls. And it wasn’t half obvious something was up with Ryan and Seth straight away. Ignoring it and musing about it after they had left? Then Summer requesting Pancakes be looked at by that doctor when there would be so many human casualties was a tad off. But in general the episode was great. One of this season’s best.

The actual finale was a bit clunky but I loved the actual ending. Loved Julie doing it for herself (though not impressed with how she screwed over Bullitt, but I guess that’s typical Julie) and Kaitlin turned out fine. Summer/Seth were great, he let her go and she came back! Also the wedding was cute (itty bitty Rachel looked gorgeous though unfortunately she seemed to be swimming in that dress). And Ryan. Ryan’s ending was perfect! The flashbacks and voice overs where he was saying good bye to the house, his home, was moving and just so well done. Ah memories. I’ve read how a few shippers were upset over the ambiguity of Ryan & Taylor though. Personally I loved the way it ended. Yes Taylor was an integral part of Season 4 but we watched the rest of them for 4 whole seasons. As it is Josh tends to lose track and focus on the girl ala Marissa Season 3. Love her or hate her you can’t deny she was overused that season and it became about her and in second thought, Marissa and then Ryan. He veered that way this season again with Ryan’s new girlfriend. Taylor had more screen time then most of Major Characters. As it is I hated the Taylor centric episodes (Such as The French Connection, Dream Lover & The Shake Up). But Josh rectified this with the ending. He once again made it all about Ryan, as it should be. Just like it all began. Happily Married and ever after is so clichéd. Glad he didn’t end up like that. The ending had potential for Ryan, there’s a great future. And the kid? It couldn’t have ended more perfectly. I didn’t cry during the episode, but then Ryan and the kid, I’ll admit it got to me. It was absolutely perfect.

Going to miss this show and in particular the beloved Mr Atwood. Is there any room in the snowglobe?
