Okay, fifty bonus points to the most creative explanation for why I got a picture of Grand Moff Tarkin when I did a Google image search for "Emo Phillips".

Don't ask why I'm looking for pictures of Emo Phillips. All will be explained soon.

Well, it's like this. Remember how Viggo Mortensen wasn't Peter Jackson's first choice for Aragorn? Same thing. Emo Phillips was the first choice for Governor Tarkin in Episode III, playing a younger Peter Cushing.

Of course, when Lucas got into the editing room, he realized this was a miscast of epic proportions - almost as bad as his Anakan casting. Ahem.

So, he brought in Wayne Pygram and reshot the Governor Tarkin scenes, and then digitally replaced Emo Phillips with Pygram. Emo was paid to keep quiet, but some of the publicity stills leaked out onto the Internet. Lucasfilm's lawyers are keeping a close watch out, but Google has caught a few of the echoes.

That works a hell of a lot better than "the owner of the website fucked up his keywords" which was my initial assumption. :-)

I was looking for Emo because there are SO FUCKING MANY emokids all over the place, and let's face it, Emo's just cooler than all of them.

I need to tweak the icon. I'd really love one with him from UHF, where he's bleeding all over the place. Ah well.

Out of curiousity, have you read the webcomic Questionable Content at all? There's a two-part Goth vs. Emo discussion that bears some relevance to this. (The artist changed styles during the comic - the characters are the same in both comics, but the left-hand character is on the right in the second comic, etc.)

Of course, the comics I most enjoyed in this strip are the ones that don't make me feel like a stranger in a strange land.
