The breeze was gentle and rocked the tall boy sitting on the swing slightly. He was gripping the metal chains tightly. The park was almost vacant except for a few children begging their parents for five more minutes on the slide. The tall boy didn’t go unnoticed though; people gave him peculiar looks and wondered to themselves “Why was there an almost grown man alone at the park.” Many mothers told their children to stay away from this strange man, but he didn’t seem to notice. He was too deep in thought.
How long had it been? An hour? Maybe more. But to him it felt it was an eternity. All he could do was think to himself, “Why me?” He kept replaying Taemin’s confession in his head and those three dreaded words were engraved in his heart. All Minho could do was sigh because he knew he could’ve handled the situation better.
It’s not that he didn’t love Taemin, he just couldn’t. Taemin was too young in Minho’s opinion. Minho also thought of Taemin as too innocent and too pure. He wanted to be the one to protect Taemin from bad things that the world had to offer. To him, Taemin was like a butterfly, delicate and oh so fragile. Minho did have some affection towards the other one, but he didn’t want it to turn into something more and then escalate to y’know…rated R content. Minho could control his urges and keep his hormones in tact, but when he was near Taemin he couldn’t help but act like more then friends with him. Minho decided that he spent enough time at the park and started to head to the dorm.
Onew and Jonghyun were sitting at the kitchen table waiting for Key to finish cooking. He set four plates on the table and put the fried chicken and soondae gook on there as well. Onew, being the chicken maniac that he is, grabbed a whole drumstick and began to eat. Jonghyun gave him a look before he took some as well. At that time Minho came back and was greeted by Jonghyun and was somewhat greeted by an Onew with a mouthful of chicken. Key gave him a glare before preparing Taemin’s plate. Minho took it as a sign that Key found out that Taemin was upset. He took a seat in the middle of Onew and Jonghyun and took his food. Key placed a bowl of kongnamulgook (bean sprout soup), galbi jim (braised short ribs) and a cup of bori cha (barley tea) on a tray and walked towards the bedroom.
“Who’s all that for?” Minho inquired.
“It’s for Taemin, he didn’t want to leave the bedroom so Key is bringing him food.” Jonghyun said quietly.
Minho mouthed a silent ‘O’ and started to eat. Onew patted him on the back and gave him a reassuring smile. Minho gave a small smile but still felt terrible inside. There was an awkward silence that filled the air around the three. Onew decided to break the silence by informing the other two members of what their manager told him.
“So tomorrow we’re going with manager-sshi and we’re going to decide on our new concept for the second album.”
“But I don’t want to lose my blond hair!” Jonghyun whined.
“So we’re going to get new hairstyles tomorrow then?” Minho asked the leader, ignoring Jonghyun grumbling about his hair.
“Most likely, and if not then we’ll get them later on in the week.” Onew said eating another piece of chicken. Minho didn’t want to lose his “wavy locks of lust” as the fans called it but maybe it was time for a change. Maybe this change would be a good thing for him. His train of thought was then cut off when Key walked back into the kitchen and took a seat across from Minho. Minho just kept his head down to avoid Key’s deadly glare.
“Well with some persuasion I was able to get Taemin to eat his dinner. He has been so unhappy lately. I wonder why.” Key said and made sure to emphasize so, unhappy and why. Minho couldn’t help felt a pang of pain.
“Excellent! A growing boy needs as much protein as he can possibly get.” Onew said happily trying to lift the tense aura that surrounded them all.
“Good job yeobo!” Jonghyun added in with a smile, also trying hard to lift the tension.
“Yeah…” Minho said softly, still looking down.
“Yeah it’s good that he’s eating. He’s stayed locked into that room for who knows how long. He didn’t look too well either, his eyes were red and puffy and his hair was messy. He even barricaded himself with pillows. I wonder what could’ve made our little Taeminnie so miserable.” Key said frankly looking directly at Minho. Minho felt Key’s eyes on him but refused to look up because he knew he would have to face the wrath of the Almighty Diva.
“Yeobo, this soondae gook is really good!” Jonghyun blurted out, forcing a smile.
Key acted as though he didn’t hear and kept glaring at Minho. Minho finally gathered enough guts to look up at Key.
“Yeah Kibum it’s really good! You should make it more often!” Onew exclaimed.
“So Minho, do you know who made Taemin so upset?” Key said ignoring the other two members.
“..I might know...” Minho said sensitively.
“What was that? I couldn’t hear you on the account that you spoke so low.”
“I said I might know.” Minho said louder this time.
“Then don’t you think that that person should fix it?”
At that moment, Taemin walked into the kitchen with the tray in his hands. Everyone froze as he made his way to the sink. He placed the tray into the sink but didn’t turn around. He gripped the edge tightly, gaining attention from the other members who were all watching him. “Taeminnie, are you okay?” Key asked with a hint of anxiety in his voice.
“I finished eating; I’m going to go to sleep now.” Was all that Taemin said, he turned and walked out of the kitchen. The sound of the bedroom door closing resonated throughout the dorm.
Minho saw the emptiness in Taemin’s once bright eyes. He felt the guilt eating away at him again. He also felt the members each staring at him. Minho let out a sigh and prayed to God that tomorrow would be a better day.
