Why is it wrong to want someone who's educated as President? Can't that be as valid a reason to vote for someone as it being someone you could drink a beer with?

Happily, this year people also prefer to drink a beer with Obama versus McCain.

That said, true enough. Although there is the one notable exception of Woodrow Wilson who had a PhD in political science but completely botched his attempt to get the League of Nations through the Senate. So there may be diminishing returns or perhaps some types of education help more than others and high level poli sci actually isn't one of the particularly helpful ones.

Educated is not the same as smart, or wise, or talented at leadership.

You need high INT, WIS, and CHA to succeed in high office.

I want a president where the average of the first two is at least 15, and I think the minimum required stat for CHA is at least a 12.

*D&D geekery:
INT = Intelligence (smarts & education, ability to learn). Good rule of thumb is that the number can represent years of schooling (16 = college grad) and/or IQ (if you multiply by 10).

WIS = Intuition, perception, willpower, and wisdom.
CHA = charisma, leadership ability, persuasive power, looks

I love this!

I just want someone who isn't proud of finishing almost at the bottom of their class, and who hasn't crashed several navy jets, and who doesn't come from a privileged background. It makes me mad every time Obama is labeled as an elitist, because he excelled in school, and McCain is painted as an everyman.

I was just talking about this with notyourreal this weekend, and we concluded there's an anti-intellectualism at work.
