working out is supposed to have the opposite effect i'm having

most people who start working out, will tend to eat more as your body requires more supplements, thus for the first few months you'll gain weight first. Once your appetite and workout schedule regulate you'll see the weight loss.

that's the thing though, i've lost a few pounds, and my bmi dropped a few points. but my body fat steadily goes up 0.1% every day? i found that odd

How are you measuring body fat and BMI? Daily fluctuations in weight could very much have to do with water weight, esp. with how hot it's been. Also consider using a website like subtractthefat.com or physicsdiet.com to record your progress. They produce some nifty looking graphs with averages and trendlines that can take out a little of the guesswork from the ups and downs of daily stat readings.

got an omron body fat and bmi monitor. the weight doesn't bother me, it's the body fat creeping upwards while the bmi and body weight dropped.
