This is in no way what I should be writing.

I took an evening off from end-stage dissertating last weekend to read a novel, Mira Grant (seanan_mcguire)'s Deadline. I would now like to babble about conspiracy theories relating to Deadline, but I have explicitly told the person with whom I would normally babble about conspiracy theories not to read the book. (I liked the book very much. You might like the ( Read more... )

LA LA LA posting this comment without having read anything behind the spoiler-cut, basically just to say that I am going to finish Deadline on the plane to Seattle this weekend and expect to have THOUGHTS once done!

It's clearly been too long since I read Feed.

And now, it will be too long until I can get my hands on Blackout (assuming I am remembering that title correctly...), because it won't exist for a while yet.

This is what I get for reading Deadline a week after it came out.

That, and the book ate my week. There was all this other stuff I should have been doing...

So, I have nothing of value to contribute to this thread except, well, that.

Yeah, that urge to read the next one right away is dangerous. Also, I know exactly what you mean about all this other stuff you should have been doing. Presumably some of the time was chag, though, so you couldn't have been doing work, right?

That's true. I missed some shul for it (which I felt like missing anyway). The bigger issue was that I was reading until 1 am on Wednesday night, and had to put it down to go to bed, and I am pretty sure it's part of the reason I didn't sleep so well (because I was all worked up and wanted to know what happened next.)

That having been said, impending chag meant I had more stuff I needed to get done between Sunday and Tuesday. I should have restrained myself, and not picked it up until Wednesday.

Oh well.

This: "In a well-designed mystery, the gun which goes off in the third act must be visibly displayed on the mantelpiece during Act 1.

This foreshadowing works best when viewers don't immediately recognize the implement as a gun."

is pretty much brilliant. I saw you comment in Greatpoets, and I hope you don't mind if i friend you!

Not at all! Nice to meet you. I have added you to my friendslist. :) I lock more posts than I leave unlocked, so you should be able to see more posts now, although I'm in very-late-stage (emphasis on "very late"!) dissertation right now so I'm not posting often.
