One - Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! - Michael Buble

December 24, 2008

The outdoor was painted with white as snow vehemently poured from the sky. The roads were blocked by heaps of snow. Inside a studio, two teenagers were sitting in front of a fogged up window, muttering sweet nothings to each other while sipping on their mugs of hot cocoa, oblivious to the blizzard outside. Mirai leaned her head on Ryosuke’s shoulder, keeping themselves warm.

“We can’t film the drama in a weather like this.” She murmured.

“I know. But thanks to this snow, we get to spend time together.”

“Hey look, a mistletoe.” She giggled, pointing at the misshapen drawing she made on the window glass.

Two - I’ll Be Home For Christmas - David Archuleta

December 24, 2017

He took the first trip back to Japan when his mother phoned him that Mirai was already sent to the hospital. He surpassed every obstacle that came at him, may it be the over-the-roof airplane ticket prices and the snowy road to the hospital. He arrived at the delivery room and was immediately asked to wear a gown, cap, and mask.

“I am not gonna let this baby out if Ryosuke is not here!” Mirai shouted, panting for breath.

“I’m here honey.” Ryosuke said, jumping into the scene, holding Mirai’s hand and kissing her on the forehead.

“What took you so long!” she grunted as a wave of pain came at her.

“Okay Yamada-san, just push when the contraction is at its peak.” The doctor instructed her.

With one big push, and Ryosuke’s hand turning blue with Mirai’s strong grasp, their first baby was born.

“Baby out, 12:03 AM.” The circulating nurse said.

“Aah. Let me see him.” Mirai said, heaving a breath.

The doctor placed the baby on top of Mirai’s chest, wrapped in white linen with vernix caseosa and blood staining his skin.

“Misuke…” she cooed as Ryosuke kissed their baby’s forehead.

“It indeed is a blessed Christmas.” Ryosuke mentioned to Mirai, smiling his widest.

“Placenta out, 12:07 AM.”

Three - White Christmas - Taylor Swift

Mirai woke up to the clanging of porcelain and silverware that came nearer to her with every passing second. She opened her eyes, adjusting to the dim light from the candle that was placed on a tray of food, together with what looked like a plate of blueberry cheesecake and candy canes being brought to her by Ryosuke, Misuke, and Sora. Misuke was turning seven the next day while Sora was four.

Their mother got up and sat on bed, and they came closer to her, placing the tray of food on her lap.

“Thanks guys. You shouldn’t have bothered.” She said, though she felt the other way around.

“Naw, it’s okay dear. You deserve it.” Ryosuke said, smiling.

“Mama, you should eat the cake now.” Misuke told his mother.

“Mama, let me feed you!” Sora immediately said, grabbing the fork and slicing off a part of the cake, then forcing it on Mirai’s mouth. “Mama, it’s already raining snow outside!”

“Is it?”

“And it’s really pretty out there!”

“Let’s go see it.” Mirai said, as soon as she finished swallowing a piece of the cake that Sora spoon-fed her with.

“NO!” the three of them simultaneously said.

Mirai raised her eyebrows. “What is it this time?”

“Nothing!” they said in a well rehearsed chorus.

One could only imagine the irritation that Mirai would feel if she was to see that her favorite porcelain vase was shattered into pieces, along with her nice set of crystal glasses.

Four - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - Keyshia Cole

December 17, 2048

The extended Yamada family surrounded the dining table as they shared one bountiful meal for the holidays. Ryosuke sat at the head of the table, while Mirai was to his right. Misuke was on the far end of the table, together with Keiri (Inoo’s daughter) and their five year old son, Kenji who had chocolate pudding all over his face. Sora and Yugo (Yuto’s son) were on opposite sides of the table, both attending to their children.

“Jii-chan! I want more chocolate!” Kenji said, handing his grandfather his bowl.

“Ken, enough already. Your teeth will decay faster if you’d eat a lot of chocolate.” Keiri said.

Kenji pouted and rubbed his eyes like he was about to cry.

“No more of your puppy eyes and pout young man.” Mirai said, receiving his bowl and putting another serving of the pudding on it. “I just can’t stand it.”

“Mama!” Misuke and Keiri exclaimed together.

“Oh come on. Just have him brush his teeth after.” Ryosuke said.

“That goes double for you adults.” Mirai added, chuckling.

“Mama, you spoil your grandkids too much.” Sora said.

“What’s wrong with that?” Mirai said innocently.

“Nothing.” Sora smiled.

“Jii-chan, I want more pudding too!” Yujiro said, pounding on the table.

“Okay, okay. Everyone gets another round of pudding!” Ryosuke decided. “This time, it’s strawberry pudding!”

“Oh dear.” Mirai said, rolling her eyes.

Five - Winterlove - Parachute

Yamada Ryosuke’s POV

It had been a year ever since I experienced my coldest Christmas and this time, it wasn’t any better. Just like before, the snow poured constantly into the earth, covering it with a white, cold blanket. I tried to smile every time I could see the snow in winter, since it was your favorite season, but it almost always buried me in misery. If not for our children and grandchildren, I would’ve been alone without you. Surely, my still-alive band mates were there for me too but it was always different when it comes to you.

These days, it took me a great effort to smile. Our kids, they cheer me up when they’d come over, but when I’m all alone at home, I can’t help but cry. I look at our picture together and it brings me bittersweet memories.

I knelt on the cold ground and wiped the snow covering the tombstone where your name was etched in gold. Yamada Mirai, oh how I miss you.

Yamada Misuke’s POV

They say I had my dad’s looks and my mom’s brains. I was proud of that. I was and forever will be proud that they were my parents. Everywhere I go, they’d recognize me as a Yamada. They would even call me Ryosuke sometimes. It was annoying at some point but I liked it.

Dad spoiled us the most when we were kids while mom was the disciplinarian. I couldn’t deny the fact that they were a very compatible couple. They were polar opposites and they complement each other. They’d fight in the morning and would be sweet t each other by sunset. What one lacks, the other fills for it. Their relationship was not perfect, they even had a period where they almost decided to end their marriage, yet no problem could stop their love.

The time mom died, it had been hard on us, especially to dad. He turned gloomy and depressed. We cheered him up every time we visit. He would smile but it does not reach his eyes. I could tell he was sad.

But in the end, I saw him smile genuinely. He smiled in his sleep, saying that he is happy with death for he could finally we with mom again. That was the last time I saw him smile, and it had been his sweetest one in years.
