That's horrible. I wonder why Castiel was shutting down, initially it must have been because of the betrayal, but the spell was really screwing him up at the end. Unless it just subsumed all of his will so he won't react at all.

Castiel didn't deserve this. But it was good to see Dean's quick reaction have extremely dire consequences. Trying to have a conversation, which Cas probably would have been all for, may have helped a little. It was cool to see Mother being talked about. Makes the Christian religion seem a bit more balanced.

I liked leaving it open ended like that because it could be taken in so many different ways. I've got a few in particular in mind, but I'm not telling.

He didn't; but he also didn't deserve a lot of things in canon too. Exploding into leviathans doesn't seem much better; the poor angel can't seem to catch a break.

Just because he's the Righteous Man doesn't mean that he's always going to be right; I really wanted to show for once that researching and dealing with ancient magic that they've never seen before could completely backfire. I mean, what are the odds that every time they look up "kill it with fire" that the method will actually work without a hitch, right?

It was cool to see Mother being talked about.Thanks, I was thinking about Lucifer in The End with his speech to Future!Dean while he fondled those roses

Man, I have to admit that the idea of a backfired spell never even occurred to me at all even though I did the whole binding shtick as well for my fic back in dc_dystopia. That said, I really love the twist you have there; its certainly a fresh take on things.

But yeah, I have to agree - this fic can get pretty dark when you think deeply about it, and the way things were left open-ended only leaves a deeper sense of foreboding. Will Cas actually make things better, or is everything going to just backfire horribly?

Personally, I think this is a "rocks fall, everyone dies" scenario - though how fast kind of depends on the planet's bitching and the power-grab for the God-Title. But since it's open who knows, maybe Cas has just gone into himself to cut out a spell component so he can save the world again!

But yeah, it does make sense, when you think about it - not everything is bound to work, and certainly there are going to be things that go wrong. Its just a matter of how badly they actually go to. I'm really a happy ending sort of person most of the time, but dark!fic is something I find interesting as a study... idk, that might be just me.
