President

So last night, I drank quite a bit of vodka...I'm surprised there is any left. Alex told me to not take this personally, but this is the first election that I have voted in where my candidate did not win. It's a very odd feeling because it does feel like I failed. To me it was the Florida BCS Bowl again where McCain was in the lead at the beginning ( Read more... )

His race had nothing to do with him getting my vote.. it had a lot to do with things McCain said, right on his website like, "I'll appoint judges to overturn Roe. V. Wade"... bzzt... bad idea.

McCain had a great defense position... that's about it.. .he proposed taxing health care benefits as income... uhhh.. no...

I'm not super thrilled about Obama, but, he hit on more issues than he missed. That's the long and short of it. What they said they intended to do.

But you never said why you could relate to him without using a qualifier. I understand WHY you voted for him but not why you can relate to him.

As for the Roe V. Wade that was Palin, NOT McCain. McCain doesn't actually believe that or would do that, Palin does.

and I quote from johnmccain.com

http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/95b18512-d5b6-456e-90a2-12028d71df58.htm

John McCain believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned, and as president he will nominate judges who understand that courts should not be in the business of legislating from the bench. As for how I can relate to Obama? I'm a parent of two girls. I started life in a one room basement apartment where my parents had to literally shake change out of the couch cusions to get enough money to buy a can of condensed milk to feed me. I grew up with enough to get by, and eventually, we did pretty good for ourselves ( ... )

That quote is because it's Sarah Palin's stand, but since Palin didn't run for office it had to go under McCain's name. Because if you look at McCain's history he has always supported Roe v. Wade.

But I say kudos to your reason for voting for him, that's a lot more than what most people voted for him on.

Like I said in my post, the race issue wouldn't just be ignored in this election. But maybe a few elections from now it will be. Yes, they still talk about "men" and "women" voting but for the most part, we're all just voters. It didn't used to be that way. When women first got the right to vote it was huge. Now we just vote because we're Americans, no big deal. With the first black candidate, it's a huge deal. In the future, maybe not so much. Anytime there's a pendulum stuck midswing we need something big to knock it back out and that's what Obama is doing. Somebody has to take the first step, or nothing will change. I don't know how someone can say this isn't historic because you see in schools and on tv and commercials how there's a cliche, the dream of "She can be the first woman President!" and I never thought there was anything wrong with aspiring towards proving to the world that someone other than a rich, old, white male can be elected to run the country. It was never "You can be President" but "You can be the ( ... )

First off, I don't assume it's someone's credit. I have had my share of credit problems and I was able to rectify them in one fell swoop. But as for "Change" no matter if it was McCain who said it or Obama candidates have been saying that since we had a president so I don't really put a whole lot of stock into "change ( ... )

Oh I know, it's your journal do as you wish. I'm aware that you and I don't see eye to eye on a lot of things.
