I think there are many people to be found in this city who consciously avoid the trappings of materialism and seek out meaningful and beautiful ways to fill their lives. We tend to attract others into our lives who are approaching things from a similar viewpoint to our own. If you act according to how you believe i promise you that you will begin to see faces again and again of people who look agreeable to you. Even in this huge city. It takes strength, courage and perseverance to live against the grain but as you surround yourself with like-minded people and places it becomes easier. That is how you CREATE your life instead of feeling lost in a chaotic world that keeps you swimming upstream. If you are strong enough you don't have to give up your friendships with others who don't see the world in the same way. I think you can accept to live alongside them because you are confident and trustful in your ability to create your own space in this world that is "wild at heart and weird on top".
