Cross out the barcode if there is one on there, mark it as "Return to Sender" and put it back in your mailbox.

What Riley said, though I sometimes put 'no one here by that address' under the Return To Sender bit.

Mark "Return To Sender" AND "Not at this address" and throw 'em back in the mailbox. Unfortunately many official mail pieces like government stuff won't be forwarded on due to security reasons (they want to make sure it doesn't end up with some OTHER random) but if you're lucky it will end up with that particular sender. We're still getting mail at our house from a guy at least 3 owners and 10 years before us!
