Summary: After all these years of knowing Ohkura, sniffing out a lie from him wasn’t really hard at all.
For
je_prompts Ryo was amazed. Actually, he was more amused than amazed (but who would notice? He wasn’t showing it much). Ohkura was actually lying to him.
“Okay? So um…I’m going to…the market. We’ve ran out of…sugar.” Ohkura’s eyes awkwardly shifted from side to side in attempt to avoid the older man’s gaze. He rubbed his arm with one hand before continuing, “In the meantime, why don’t you…go out or something? It’s nice weather out.”
Oh, yeah, Ohkura was a very good liar. Probably one of the best. No, that was sarcasm. Ryo resisted the urge to shake his head and sigh. So instead, he shrugged and nodded in reply. “I guess. Should I meet up with you or something?”
“Oh…um…sure. How about 5 o’ clock?”
Ryo shifted his gaze towards the clock. It was almost noon. He frowned. 5 o’ clock? Why does Ohkura want to meet up at 5? Does he have something to do for the next 5 hours? Unbelievable.
“So…you need 5 hours to go to the market and buy sugar.” He spoke up with a raised brow.
Ohkura was suddenly taken aback. (‘Ooh, I caught a flaw’ the older thought, amused.) He quirked up a smile and scratched his head. “…I’m also going to get a haircut.”
Ryo nodded slowly, slightly unsure. A series of questions then rammed through his mind once more. A haircut? A HAIRCUT?! Why would he need a haircut? His hair looked fine. He had gotten used to that hair style that if Ohkura went and got a haircut, he wouldn’t be able to recognize him unless he did something stupid. “I…see. Well,…whatever.”
The younger nodded once and replied, “I’ll get going then. See you.” And with that, he headed towards the door and stepped out.
Ryo watched him leave, eyebrows raised and a smirk forming on his lips. “I don’t know where to go…might as well follow him. When he lies, it really irks me.”
Hurriedly, he grabbed his coat and keys and rushed out the door to stalk Ohkura.
--
Ohkura sighed heavily. He hardly ever lied to Ryo but it was necessary. He really doesn’t want him to find out about what he was about to do today. But unknown to him, the man who he kept secret from was following him.
Ryo was watching the younger’s every move from the corner of the street. When the other walked far enough, he would walk on casually and trail after him. He knew that if he walked like a stalker, the people around him would become suspicious and Ohkura would probably catch him. He doesn’t want that. Oh no.
Upon leaning against the next corner, he peered over to his lover. His eyes grew wide with shock.
‘What the hell is he doing with Yamapi and Jin?! And what the hell is Yamapi and Jin doing with him?! Argh, this is driving me nuts!!’ his mind screamed and complained as he watched Ohkura greet his two best friends before heading towards an ice cream parlor with a smile. ‘What the hell?! He’s going to an ice cream parlor with those two?! And without inviting me?! OHH….I see. So THAT’S why he didn’t want me to know. He just wanted to be with those two.’
He was considering about watching them from the outside but he wouldn’t like that. Why? He would be standing right outside and watching them eat ice cream. Now that’s a crime. And unfair. And so, he strode into the parlor with hands shoved into his pockets and looked around. There they were, sitting and chatting by the window with a bowl of ice cream (He noticed with amusement that Jin had gotten a large sundae. Ah, he could pick on him with that because he should be losing weight instead of gaining them). He sat closely by but not close enough to be seen. Just close enough to hear their conversation. He frowned a bit. Because of the level of noise echoing around the room, he could only hear fractions like “maybe we should”, “Ryo-chan”, and “what if he…”. Unfortunately, he still couldn’t grasp the conversation to understand what they’re saying.
About an hour, the three stood up and headed out. Ryo thought Jin ate waaay too fast. It was almost abnormal. But instead of commenting further, he quickly left the parlor. Once outside, he looked left and right, wondering where they were heading to. He quickly spotted Ohkura and hurried on.
‘Where are they going?! I’m about to lose my mind here!’ he thought to himself as he trotted towards the three. The next place they were going to was…
“A jewellry shop?!” He muttered with a raised brow. ‘Why a jewellry shop?’ He doesn’t recall any special occasion this month. Unless…Ohkura was helping to get a gift for Yamapi and Jin? Maybe that was it. How boring.
Ryo sighed. Ohkura could’ve just said he was going to get a gift for them but why would he need to lie about that?
Shaking his head, he headed back home.
--
“Tadaima.” Ohkura called out as he entered with a bag in his hand.
“Okaeri.” Ryo’s voice echoed from the living room.
The younger man peered into room. Ryo was lying on the couch with an open book on his face. He would’ve appeared to be sleeping if it weren’t the fact that he replied to his call.
“Ryo-chan?” Ohkura strode towards the couch and kneeled in front of the older man.
“Yes…?” was the dull reply.
The younger frowned. “What’s wrong with you?”
Ryo then pulled the book off and sat up before ruffling his hair. “Hm, nothing. What do you want?”
Ohkura got up and sat next to the other with a wide smile. “Do you know what today is?”
The older man stared with a frown. “…No. Christmas?”
Ohkura nearly gaped in surprise. “You’re…kidding.”
“…What?”
The younger brought the bag to Ryo’s lap. He could see the confusion in the other’s eyes. “It’s our 1 month anniversary.”
“Oh?...OH?!” Ryo leaped out of the couch in shock and the bag nearly flew to the ground if it weren’t for Ohkura’s quick reflexes. The younger man sighed audibly.
“Yes, 1 month anniversary. I went out to get you a gift.” He handed the bag to Ryo once more.
“Was that why you-“
“Hm?”
“…”
“What?”
“…Nothing. Thank you.” Ryo glanced down to the bag. “…I didn’t get you anything.”
“Ah, don’t worry about that.” Ohkura smiled. “Open it.”
The older removed the neatly wrapped package (and it was yellow too…with forest green ribbons) from the bag and began to take the wrapping out. After that, he opened the box. He stared with widened eyes.
It was a gold band. Slowly, he pulled it out and read the words inscribed there: “To Ryo-chan. Happy 1 month anniversary. I love you. From Tadayoshi.”
Ryo turned to the younger man and slowly, a smile began to form. “…Thank you.”
Ohkura mirrored the smile. “I’m glad you liked it. It was hard choosing the right gift.”
“Was that why you brought Yamapi and Jin…” Ryo muttered under his breath.
“Hm? What was that, Ryo-chan?”
“Nothing. It’s nothing.”
End.
