Ryxander's Rules for Sexy Women in Entertainment

OK, so much has been bandied about lately on the internet about the oversexualization of women in just about everything (but often comics), and I can no longer resist laying out my own opinions.

It's pretty simple, for me.  I have no problem with the fact that heterosexual boys like to look at scantily clad girls.  I have no problem with people ( Read more... )

Princess Leia was an integral partner in her own rescue, and slavery aside, modestly dressed, often for combat.

Ellen Ripley had to deal with male-dominated marines not listening to her, until she took matters in her own hands.

Sarah Connor had to be saved a lot in Terminator, but in T2 she came back prepared, with biceps.

Recently, I saw an utterly hatey article go by about how Game of Thrones is watched exclusively by men and that's why there's so much girly flesh shown.

I was rather surprised, as I've been kind of pleasantly shocked that there's a lot of equal opportunity nudity and ridiculousness. Granted, the show is entirely made of weird porny overtones and "sexy" is debatable at times, but seriously, it's full of female friendly eye candy as much as men.

Oh, and for the record, they did Brienne justice. I'm impressed by her actress, who is a giant amazonian woman in full plate. I find her sexy, but I find her to be that because she's a whole character who doesn't care to be sexy.

The early Anita Blake books are pretty good, before the author turns her into a nympho (wish I was kidding).

Also, Kethry from several Mercedes Lackey books, Kethro from 'By the Sword' (also Mercedes Lackey), and Indigo from the 'Alien Scent' books by Wen Spencer. Hmmm. Will have to think on that more.
