Ugh I know how you feel. Unfortunately, you can't help them - you can try, but it won't do any good. All it will achieve is making you feel like a failure when they feel - you put the guilt on yourself and it's just a yucky situation. They have to help themselves. Try not to waste your emotional energy trying to fix them, I know it's easier said than done, but when you accept that this is not your problem you'll be a lot better off. Maybe they will change their ways one day, but maybe they won't. Accept that they are wonderful parents except for this one aspect (although it is a pretty large issue, I know) and just try and work around it I guess. It's about self preservation.
I really do know how you feel and I'm sorry you have to go through it too. <3
Thank you Ash for your sympahty and advice. You're right about not wasting my emotional energy, sometimes I get so frustated that I cry, I yell, I get an urge to hit them, that does me no good and I don't think it will help them much. I need to work on that.
