These are the movies i watched in 2006. My favourites are blue and ones i'd already seen are bold. I watched not so many. I might have forgotten some toward the end. I'm off movies right now.
I don't remember much of my thoughts on it, or much of the movie in fact! I only recall thinking 'what's the point', or 'what's the point of making this point'? I felt like it made a statement, but then drilled on with it for a long, unenjoyable time. And i felt like David Cronenberg was showing his age with this film from the bottom of the premise, "Violence is a pattern of reations passed sociologically through generations" which i think is common knowledge to people our age... to the top of implausible scenes involving the son in his highschool environment. Again, i don't remember much and i wish i did because i'm a Cronenberg fan, and i'd like to give him a proper criticism. If you read the reviews online, i agree with most of the negative ones.
it's hilariously offbeat, has a super soundtrack with David Bowie covers, Willem Dafoe, Halloween costume inspiration, and i'm into all the Scuba-kitsch like Bill Murray into a retro Speedo
i also recommend: The Chances of the World Changing (documentary) Shortbus (can't remember if you saw this yet) Kiss of the Spider Woman (i'd recommend this to anyone) Thin (documentary) Death to Smootchie, 40 Year Old Virgin (haven't you seen these yet?!!)

The docs are probably harder to find to rent. And may not make the best date movie, anyway. ;p
Thanks for the recommendations.
