yeah so this weekend...so much potential yet so unfulfilling. One good thing, I've finally played beer pong and I'm obsessed with it so that's kind of cool. And Becky is home for the summer in 6 days so I'm pretty happy for that ( Read more... )

Middle to me is whatever the current U.S. GDP PPP is(right now, $40,100 dollars), up to about $250,000 dollars. In terms of net worth, I would say anything below about $500,000 or $600,000 dollars is middle class. It is my opinion you can have an upper or upper-middle class net worth while making a middle class salary and still be considered middle class. More than you needed but also something for you to consider.

yeah, actually i've considered that already, i was just aiming for simplicity. the concept of middle class depends on a lot more things than just income, personal autonomy for example.

Autonomous from what? Debt, as in your assets are owned by you and not 'the bank'? Net worth is calculated as net assets minus net liabilities, so that's would be accounted for in net worth. A $600,000 house with only $300,000 paid off is only a $300,000 asset(minus interest) essentially. Or do you mean from like parents or inheritance or something like that?

i was referring more to personal autonomy in the workplace, for example a line worker in a factory has almost no autonomy whereas a college professor or teacher(this is shrinking for teachers) has almost complete autonomy. I brought it up based on the idea that the concept of middle class is subject to more than just economic figures.
