Title: Stars
Pairing: Donghae/Sungmin
Rating: G - PG
Genre: Fluff
Summary: "Hyung, did you know? The stars are lonely."

A/N: I like any pairing with Sungmin in it. Still, it's weird writing him with Donghae, because I sort of like Eunhae also... -shames-

Stars

The first time Sungmin joined Donghae out on the balcony to watch the stars, Donghae told him with vacant eyes and face,

“Hyung, did you know? The stars are lonely.”

Weary from the busy schedule he had all day, Sungmin asked-half-heartedly,

“Really, why is that?”

He did not expect a coherent answer, especially since it was Donghae. For as long as he can remember, or really makes an effort to, Donghae is the child of the group, the weird one at least. And children say the darnest things, so most of the time, Sungmin either ignores him or says things simply to satisfy Donghae’s kiddish nature. This time, he was taken back by Donghae’s earnest response, the timid glow in Donghae’s eyes when he spoke, and the strange solemnity that invaded the cool night air,

"Because you never visit them, hyung."

Sungmin knows that he does not need to take into account what Donghae said. After all, the other boy proves to be an oddball, with all his talk of aliens, and now-communication with the stars. To be any stranger than Donghae is to take him seriously.
But Sungmin took it to heart as he looked, with unfocused eyes, at the blurry, unmoving stars that night and felt a sincere longing from the countless stars gazing back at him.
"They miss you, hyung," Donghae said afterward.

Unconsciously, these endearing words became an invisible obligation for Sungmin, who now comes back from his schedule earlier, who now changes faster, who now gulps down only a few bites before joining Donghae and the stars again. When he acknowledged the stars' affection that night, Sungmin felt a strange excitement at the thought that he is loved. He likes the thrill that this strange love gives him, so Sungmin reciprocates the stars' feelings through nightly visits on the balcony. The stars mesmerize Sungmin, and he grows quixotic looking at them.

Donghae appreciates the company, in fact, he welcomes it-especially if it is Sungmin. The stars and the abysmal sky seem more delightful with Sungmin's presence, just like Donghae predicted. He likes how his hyung's eyes twinkle like the stars-a sight interesting enough to momentarily distract Donghae from the outer-space's activities. On some occasions, Donghae would reassure his hyung that the stars still feel the same, which makes Sungmin glows in the most beguiling, attractive way and leaves Donghae breathless, flushed.

"Do the stars still like me?" Sungmin likes asking that.

"Of course, hyung." Donghae would reply, and Sungmin would fall heads over heels times and times again for that answer. It became Sungmin's habit, snuggling up Donghae's shoulder and peering out at the stars from Donghae's black strands, overwhelmed by the vastness of the sky.

"Donghae ah, why do the stars like hyung so much?" Sungmin asks with romantic eyes on the tenth night he watches the stars with Donghae.

"Because, hyung, the stars shine the brightest in your presence."

"Really?" Sungmin grins into the fabric of Donghae's jacket, liking every word, "Then, how much do the stars like me?"

Donghae contemplates, then whispers into dark hair, "They love you, hyung."

Sungmin pulls back, embarrassed, "Don't lie."

Holding Sungmin's shoulder, Donghae chuckles quietly and presses his cheek into Sungmin's hair. The stars blink violently, flicker here and there, and dive into Donghae's eyes. For once, Donghae does not understand the stars, as he muses how unimportant it is whether or not they do love Sungmin, because if the stars do not love his hyung, there is always a person who will. Who is.

And the stars dim in comparison to his love.
