It was a friend's birthday party. More importantly, it was the first birthday party Kevin went to since he was of age to drink alcohol.

Kibum, his bestest friend, had always used the younger's age to deprive him of some fun. It seemed really awesome to get drunk, so tonight, Kevin was determined.

The party was held outdoors, by the swimming pool with fancy tables set up. Waiters were hired to serve the crowd, a big screen projector rented to entertain. Kibum was just being Kevin's companion, chauffeur and whatever else he could be, not knowing anyone at all. Kevin had his fun though, catching up with whoever he knew and even making new friends here and there.

A waiter passed by him and asked if he would like a drink. He took the prettiest one, while Kibum took something of a nasty red.

“You're a vampire!” Kevin giggled, before nodding when Kibum whispered that he would be going to watch kids play by the pool.

“I've been wondering, Kevin, if your friend there is single.” An old friend of his asked. “He looks great!”

“Whether he's single or not, it doesn't concern you!” Kevin exclaimed. “You're taken!”

“Shush about that.” She laughed. “Is he always so quiet?”

Kevin looked curiously at Kibum, who already placed himself a safe distance away from drenched kids having fun. A small smile appeared on Kibum's face, which undeniably made the few girls around him squeal.

Nope, but he wouldn't tell them the truth.

He sipped alcohol, mouth unaccustomed to the bitter taste. Kevin made a funny face at the drink, making all those present coo.

“Has Kevy not drank alcohol before?” An old buddy laughed, nudging the girl beside him. “You're underage y'know, should learn from Kevy.”

“Tch.” Kevin rolled his eyes, feeling a burning sensation along the path of his oesophagus, and that felt different. He looked at the drink and tried breathing out, in probable hopes of breathing fire.

“Oh no, here comes the dragon phase.”

“Hey, stop mocking me.” Kevin pouted, but drank more and tried breathing out harder. “H-How does it burn?”

“Uh-oh, we have a confirmed drunkard over here, go get that quiet man to deal with him.” A chuckle, but Kevin felt his world spin a bit.

“Why are your eyes...there?” Kevin frowned, pointing out but unable to hold his hand at the right spot. “Hey, you look like you only have one now!”

“I think we really need to- Oh.”

“Kevin.” Kibum caught the younger before he fell backwards. Kevin was then hoisted up in Kibum's arms, cradled carefully like a baby.

“Oh? You look like a monsterrrrrr.” Kevin's slurred speech caused everyone to chuckle. He pouted, frowning at whoever he set his eyes upon. “Nort farrr-nyy!”

“Shall I get you home?” Kibum asked, distancing himself subtly from the people. “You're drunk.”

“I don't want to go home!” Kevin whined, pressing his head against Kibum's chest. It looked too intimate, and it felt too ticklish, raising some eyebrows at the scene. “I'm not drunk yet. Put me down!”

-

There's somethin' 'bout the way
The street looks when it's just rained
There's a glow off the pavement
You walk me to the car
And you know I wanna ask you to dance right there
In the middle of the parking lot

-

Rain droplets fell in an unsynchronised rhythm, and it got more frequent. Kevin was still arguing with Kibum about wanting to be put down. The host then quickly got everyone to enter the house, but Kibum felt a little out of place with a drunk Kevin in his arms.

“We very sincerely wish you a happy birthday, but Kevin isn't up to staying any longer.” Kibum politely explained. “Would it be all right if we left?”

“I'm sorry for the bad weather.” The other party smiled kindly. “Silly Kevin, getting drunk so early. Help yourself to some of these homemade desserts before leaving, won't you?”

Kibum took one to be polite, before bowing and leaving the house. He was still standing under the shelter, considering his options in the sudden heavy rain.

“Kibummie-hyunggg...” Kevin pressed a finger against Kibum's chest and traced the lines on the simple shirt. Kibum fidgeted uncomfortably, but Kevin didn't retrieve his hand. “Put me down, pretty please?”

Kibum sighed, refusing once more, until Kevin struggled crazily in his arms. He felt his arms grow weaker, finally agreeing to putting Kevin down. The younger ceased to move, waiting for the promise to come true.

As soon as Kevin's feet touched the ground, he leaned against the older man for support. He then hugged Kibum's waist with his two previously awkwardly placed hands and smiled a silly grin.

“You're warm.”

“You're warm too.” Kibum replied simply, an arm around Kevin's thinner waist to pull him closer. “Are you cold?”

“I...are cold.” Kevin giggled, words not making much sense, but that was all right.

They sat quietly at the doorstep. Kevin’s breaths were soft and ticklish against Kibum’s neck, eyes staring at Kibum’s jawline in close proximity, chin on the older’s shoulder. He giggled, feeling himself get cross-eyed. He blamed the alcohol.

The passing shower stopped soon enough. Kibum held out his free hand for Kevin to hold, standing up and adjusting his jeans with a slight wiggle after hoisting Kevin up with him. Without any words, Kibum led Kevin to where he parked his car.

Kevin smiled at the road. Whether it was the streetlights, or the moon that appeared from behind the clouds, or the alcohol, or the fact that Kibum was next to him, he saw a pale yellow glow off the pavement.

“It’s prettyyy.” Kevin dragged the last syllables, chortling softly. “It feels like a paradise, right here, right now.”

“It’s just a road.” Kibum smiled faintly, pulling Kevin close to him before he fell forward.

“Not with you.”

Kibum kept silent, holding onto Kevin firmly as he wobbled in his steps.

“I don’t want to go yet.” Kevin whispered as they neared a familiar car.

“We can dance here, if that was what you were looking forward to at the party.” Kibum offered, turning to face Kevin and making sure Kevin wouldn’t fall backwards from the lack of support during the period.

“But no one is here to see my hard work.” Kevin grumbled with a pout, head falling on Kibum’s shoulder. “I practised to make sure I don’t step…those…glitter…painful…heels…”

“Am I no longer a person?” Kibum asked, amused. Kevin didn’t reply for a minute, following Kibum’s lead as they danced effortlessly in the middle of the parking lot. It was a private estate, luckily, which explained the lack of audience.

“You’re an angel.”

-

We're drivin' down the road
I wonder if you know
I'm tryin' so hard not to get caught up now
But you're just so cool
Run your hands through your hair
Absent-mindedly makin' me want you

-

“Let’s get in the car, we have danced enough for the day.” Kibum lowered his volume, watching in fascination as Kevin struggled to open his eyes. His legs were moving less distance by the second, his arms losing strength.

“I…don’t…” Kevin yawned. “Okay.”

Kibum tickled Kevin with a grin, watching as he squirmed and squeaked in the older’s arms. He didn’t stop as a tear slipped down Kevin’s eyes, squeals turning into screams, before the younger broke free and ran around.

“Kevin!”

Kevin hit a lamppost and fell backwards, rubbing his head sulkily before laughing the matter off. “I’m so stupid, am I not?”

“Silly, not stupid.” Kibum chuckled, picking Kevin off from the floor. “Awake now?”

“Why would you wake me up? Inconsiderate! You should have let me sleep like a gentleman, on your shoulder…” Kevin blushed, shaking his head furiously. “Let’s get me home.”

Kibum agreed with a nod, helping Kevin to his seat and putting on his seatbelt for him. “Safety first, silly boy.”

“I’m a silly boy, but that’s okay.” Kevin beamed, drifting into an unconscious state despite the incident earlier. “You’ll be there…”

Kibum bit his lip and looked at Kevin’s peaceful face, thinking about the unusual Kevin he had seen for the day. Was it the alcohol? Was it nonsensical blabber? He jerked backwards, thinking of the possible consequences if it wasn’t.

“Damn-” Kibum growled, clutching his head in pain while trying to silence himself. In his rush to get out of the car, he hit his head against the roof. He chuckled at his stupidity, smiling at the younger. “I’m a silly boy, too.”

Kevin bit his cheeks from the inside and tried not to giggle as Kibum carefully closed the door, moving to his side of the car and getting on the driver’s seat. He wasn’t really sleepy after being tickled awake, he just wanted to blabbered words out without taking responsibility for them.

“Guess it’s a long way home.” Kibum sighed, turning on the radio at a low volume, starting the car engine. He switched gears and stepped on the pedal gently, reversing out of his parking lot with a hand controlling the steering wheel.

Kevin peeked at the actions Kibum did. No matter how many times he saw it, how he secretly tried to mimick them at home, he still found It so cool of Kibum to manage such a feat. It seemed so far away from Kevin’s world, it seemed as if he was stuck in the passenger’s seat forever, and if it meant Kibum fetching him everywhere, every day, he thinks he wouldn’t mind.

“You’re awake?” Kibum questioned quietly, stopping at the road junction and checking the rear-view mirror for his own reflection. He casually ran a hand through his hand to smoothen the mess the light breeze made previously, before turning back to focus on the road.

“How did you know?” Kevin pouted, seeing no point in his act.

“You’re not in your usual sleeping position.” Kibum smiled.

Kevin swore his heart beat a little too fast. And there he was, thinking he would be the only one noticing small habits Kibum had. He didn’t want to just lose in the small battle, pointing out an unusual action Kibum did. “You don’t usually care about your hair.”

“I’m nervous.” Kibum replied simply.

-

And I don't know how it gets better than this
You take my hand and drag me head first
Fearless
And I don't know why but with you
I'd dance in a storm in my best dress
Fearless

-

“Then do what you always do.” Kevin encouraged. “My mother doesn’t expect me to be home until late at night. We’re supposed to be at the party.”

“Do you want to go back there, now that you’re better?” The older considerately asked, receiving a shake of the head as a reply.

“I wasn’t thinking when I brought you there with me.” Kevin sighed. “You must have felt out of place, sorry.”

“Don’t be.” Kibum smiled, ruffling Kevin’s hair despite having his eyes on the road. “I just want you to have fun.”

“Well, I have fun with you too.” Kevin insisted. “Come on, let’s do what you always do when you’re nervous.”

Kibum laughed, nodding as he shifted slightly in his position, two arms tensed while gripping the steering wheel. “Sit tight.”

Kevin nodded, the car speeding the next moment. He then winded down his side of the car’s window, enjoying the strong breeze that entered. His hair was in a mess, but that didn’t hinder his enjoyment even by a bit.

Yes, Kibum was speeding, over the limit even, but they were still law-abiding citizens in the core of their hearts.

They drove to a deserted road they visited frequently, as Kibum stepped further down on the pedal, swiftly passing the secret scenery.

“Can we stop at the awesome place?” Kevin grinned, hand unconsciously reaching out for Kibum’s and gripping it tightly.

“Obviously.”

-

So baby drive slow
'til we run out of road in this one horse town
I wanna stay right here in this passenger's seat
You put your eyes on me
In this moment now capture it, remember it

-

Kibum slowed down considerably as they drove closer to their destination, causing Kevin to eagerly poke his head out of the window and smile at what he saw.

“It never changes.” Kevin muttered in fascination. “It’s as if it was waiting for our return, afraid we’ll forget how it looks like.”

“You’re getting all weird.” Kibum chuckled, parking his car at the side of the road.

Kevin quickly got off the car and ran with all his might. “Come catch me!”

“Oh, no. We’re not seriously doing this, are we? Kevin, you are drunk and-” Kibum groaned, legs taking big steps forward as he increased his speed and chased Kevin around their secret hideout - a forgotten beach.

Kevin fell to the floor with his stomach flat on the sand, giggling as Kibum landed on him due to the sudden stop.

“Uh-oh, you caught me~!” Kevin giggled some more, while Kibum turned his body to rest on the sand instead of Kevin’s back. “I might have a prize for you!”

“Kevin.” Kibum chortled, saying the younger’s name more of just because than really wanting to get his attention. “Why are you so cute, even when you’re drunk?”

“Because I am cute, what kind of question is that?” Kevin laughed, shifting himself to lie on Kibum’s chest as their eyes met. Kevin lowered his volume, voice barely a whisper. “Am I cuter like that?”

Kibum stared back into Kevin’s hazel brown eyes, not blinking as they looked into each other’s eyes, as if capturing, remembering and memorising each other’s features. Kevin blushed under the older’s intense gaze, something Kevin slowly fell in love with, the idea of being the only one Kibum sees.

Unconsciously, Kevin’s heart rate quickened. He willed it to slow down when he realised its erratic beating. Kibum was just one ribcage away, and he can hear it! When his heart just refuses to listen to him, Kevin unwillingly pulled away with a burning red face.

“I think, we should just go home.” Kevin’s voice trembled, heart still affecting his head.

Kibum silently agreed, helping himself and Kevin up before dusting the sand on his clothes off. They got to the car, and Kevin decided to break the silence once again.

“Drive slow, won’t you?”

Kevin just wanted to stay this way, on the passenger’s seat, beside Kibum, for as long as possible.

Because any moment with the other deserves to last forever.

-

Well you stood there with me in the doorway
My hands shake I'm not usually this way
But you pull me in and I'm a little more brave
It's the first kiss,
It's flawless,
Really something,
It's fearless.

-

They eventually stopped outside Kevin’s house, Kibum parking his car just to send Kevin to his doorstep as usual.

“You might get kidnapped at your doorstep, since you’re so easily bullied.” Kibum joked the first time Kevin asked, though a thousand thoughts ran across his head as he said that.

Kevin didn’t notice the worry in Kibum’s eyes.

That was okay, Kibum told himself as he looked at Kevin’s back view while he fished out the key to his door. He promised he would be there to protect the younger.

Kevin frowned worriedly, unable to find his keys. “I’m scared she’s asleep. I don’t want to wake her up…”

Kibum chuckled and told Kevin to raise his hands while he checked the younger’s clothes for his keys. He tapped the pockets, and found it in Kevin’s jacket’s pocket.

“Oh, silly me.” Kevin giggled. “Well, I uh, guess I have to go.”

Kibum nodded, still patiently waiting behind Kevin.

Kevin hesitated, turning around to look into Kibum’s eyes. Some part of him felt like there’s no better time than today, than right now. Besides, if Kibum rejected him, he could say it’s the alcohol.

“Goodnight?” Kevin meekly said, taking a step forward to shorten the distance between them.

Kibum noticed that Kevin stepped onto empty space, catching the younger before he could fall elsewhere, protectively circling one arm around Kevin and making sure they were both standing. Face to face, eyes to eyes, Kevin leaned closer and shut his eyes, his lips slightly parted as they kissed.

Kibum tilted his head slightly such that their lips fitted perfectly. All the suspicions and doubts, cleared away and Kibum couldn’t be more thankful. He felt a little braver, sliding his tongue across Kevin’s lower lip and their first kiss became something more passionate but slow.

Kevin hugged Kibum tighter, melting into the kiss as Kibum sent sparks flying in his head. They only pulled away suddenly when a dog barked loudly in the silent night.

Kevin blushed as Kibum looked at him, a slightly intense but gentle manner. Kibum kissed Kevin lightly the second time, before breaking out into a smile. “You should go to bed.”

Kevin nodded and hurriedly turned around, unlocking the door and running in. “Sweet dreams!”

He panted for air as he leaned against the door, breathless about the whole situation. Go to bed? Kevin thinks it isn’t possible. He will stay up all night, write on his diary, sing to his favourite love songs, watch all the cheesy romantic films and just lie in bed, thinking about Kim Kibum.

Kibum chuckled, finally walking away with a silly smile on his face. Entering his car, he sat in the driver’s seat for a little longer than necessarily, touching his lips before smiling once again. Driving off, he agreed.

“Sweet dreams indeed.”
