To Kevin, love, is like spaghetti.
Because Kibum is naturally a bad cook, Kevin decided he would slowly teach the older man to whip up a simple dish like spaghetti, to treat love carefully.
Kibum goofed off, as usual, only interested in hugging Kevin’s waist from behind and staring at him cook. “You look so cute concentrating like that.”
“Hyung!” Kevin blushed slightly, but insisted that Kibum did half of the work. Grabbing a handful of uncooked spaghetti, he made Kibum wash his hands quickly to take over. “Just place them in gently, and they’ll soften over time.”
Like feelings, Kevin added mentally with a shy smile tugging the sides of his lips.
If you treat one person nicely enough, he’s bound to return those feelings someday. Over five years, Kevin had been there for Kibum through thick and thin (in spaghetti terms, cold and hot water), going through many things by the older’s side. Kevin was also lucky, that the conditions were just right, for Kibum had harboured the same feelings he did.
“Like that?” Kibum turned his head and smiled, before flinching and grabbing his hand, rubbing away the hot water that had splattered on his hand with a scowl. “It doesn’t like me!”
Kevin giggled, reaching out for Kibum’s hand and gently blowing. You can’t rush it, for feelings are delicate. The timing has to be just right, along with the amount. “Better?”
Kibum leaned closer and nodded, shifting their bodies in a way that Kevin ended up pressed against the kitchen counter. Swiftly kissing Kevin, the two smiled as their eyes met.
Kevin then turned around with a slight blush creeping up his face, the usual thing Kibum’s intense gaze always caused. Adjusting the flame of the fire boiling the water, the two then waited silently with Kibum rocking them both from side to side.
“If I told you I view spaghetti as our love, would you be more serious?” Kevin asked, feeling Kibum pause in his movements.
“Why the sudden topic?” Kibum blinked, leaning forward with a questioning look on his face. “Although, yes. I’d probably be more serious to something our little Kevinnie holds high regards for.”
Kevin beamed, happy with the answer as he stirred the spaghetti that was now soft with a pair of cooking tongs. He waited for another few minutes before asking Kibum to get a clean bowl out.
“Mm.” The older hummed, rinsing the bowl with tap water before cleaning the insides with a clean cloth.
“You do it.” Kevin giggled, passing over the cooking tongs and reminding Kibum to be careful. “Remember, it’s our love.”
Kibum chuckled, turning off the stove after confirming it was all right to do so with Kevin. Kevin shifted away and watched Kibum struggle a little, but carefully managing the noodles. If he held the tongs too tightly, the relationship would end up tensed. If he held them too loosely, their love would slip away.
After some time, Kibum twisted the noodles to form a neat pile in the clean bowl. He presented it to Kevin as if for judging, even saluting the younger as a joke. “Do I pass? Or am I disqualified?”
Kevin took the bowl and examined in close details, as if being a real judge. He frowned a bit, even walking two steps forward for a better lighting, while Kibum fidgeted as if he was really nervous.
Or maybe he really was.
Placing it on the kitchen counter, Kevin laughed softly while running into Kibum’s arms, raising his head to peck Kibum’s cheek. “You passed, with full marks!”
Kibum wrapped his arms tightly around the younger boy, just staying this way to enjoy the moment. Kevin hesitated a little as he pulled away, sadly stating that if he didn’t, the noodles would swell up.
“You can’t leave a relationship uncared for, yeah?” Kibum smiled with his eyes forming two crescents, and Kevin swore he just fell in love again.
With the sauce he had made earlier by adding diced chicken, shredded carrots and sliced sausages into tomato sauce reheated, Kibum held the bowl of noodles and waited for Kevin to add the sauce in skilfully.
As a dish needs different ingredients to vary the taste, it couldn’t only be happiness in their relationships. Many times the two quarrelled, yet since there was more sugar than anything, the blissful times lasted a lot longer than the bad.
Smiling at each other foolishly, Kibum was given the special privilege of adding whatever amount of cheese he wanted as a finishing touch.
“Hm?” Kibum smirked devilishly. “I like cheesy things.”
Kevin punched Kibum lightly on the arm with a flushed face while trying to fight the smile stretching his lips away. The older always had a way of turning him into a love-struck high school girl.
“I love you.” A whisper lingered in the air, as the two enjoyed their love with their hungry stomachs and their fluttering hearts, each and every heartbeat telling a different story with the same happy ending.
