Author's Notes: I don’t really know what this is…0.0. Uh, this has nothing to do with Bruno Mars ._.
Once upon a time, Dongho was a spoilt brat. Everything he wanted, he could get it, because, well, he wanted it. It’s as simple as that. No one could resist his cuteness, and when his cuteness didn’t work, he stomps off and that’s cute as well. Then, to appease this troublesome brat, everyone gives in.
Now, he knew he should learn to get things himself, not relying on others anymore.
-
So even if his Mathematics grade was below average, he wouldn’t ask for Alexander-hyung’s help.
“Dongho, if you fall below average just one more time, I can’t have you skipping remedial.” His teacher stated sternly, while his eyes fell onto his quiz paper. A four out of ten.
Well, it…isn’t that bad.
I mean, everyone knows how hard calculus is. Yet even if he thought this way in his heart, he knew he would have to work hard on Mathematics. If he gives up on the subject, then he’s just not growing up.
Reading, re-reading and just memorising his notes again, Dongho slumped in defeat at the end of the day. Things were easier back when he could ask Alexander to help do his homework while explaining. The older would then form easier ones for him to do, and somehow he would understand.
Dongho took in a deep breath and mumbled a word of encouragement to himself.
He can do this.
-
Even if he wanted to smile, he refuses to ask Kiseop-hyung to do stupid things.
“Someone’s feeling down?” Kiseop grinned, jumping up and down like an idiot. Kevin recruited himself into the crew of idiocy.
“Who, who? Captain Kevin will help him wear back a smile!” Kevin announced.
“I’m the captain!” Kiseop pouted. “Off the plank, you disobedient pirate!”
“It’s not funny.” Dongho frowned with a roll of his eyes. “Stop trying.”
Kevin sighed, leaving Kiseop to do what he does best. Kiseop waited.
“Just go away.” Dongho shook his head, pushing Kiseop far from him.
You’re not happy!” Kiseop pointed out, pinching Dongho’s cheeks as if that would make him feel better.
“I don’t have to be happy 24/7, thank you very much.” Dongho curtly replied, while Kiseop ran to Alexander with tears.
(“He bullied me!”)
Dongho mentally cheered for himself to not give up.
-
Even if he got a burn, he never ran to Kevin-hyung with teary eyes.
Dongho was quite confident a chef. I mean, everyone probably can tell that he cooks well. Or at least that’s what he thinks.
To sooth his growling stomach, he dragged his feet to the kitchen and took out whatever ingredients he could find. Some leftover cabbage and three packets of instant ramen. Guess he’d just have to make himself a bowl of noodles.
Placing the pot on the stove, he emptied the packet of noodles and added all the seasonings in. He then poured water in to the pot till he was satisfied, before turning on the gas and then the fire. Bored of waiting, he danced around while taking out a pair of chopsticks and then stirring his lunch.
He probably was hungry, causing the soup to spill out. In his hurry to clean up the small mess, he brought the cloth over and wiped the area, forgetting that the fire was still on. Concentrating on the mess and trying to remove any stains, the heat sunk in and pain took over his nerves.
Dongho yelped in pain, clutching his fingers and seeing it turn red, heat still emitting from them. He blew air to it, wiping the tear that easily formed and walked towards Kevin’s room instinctively.
“Hyung!” Dongho called out, before realising what he was doing. “Nothing! I called you for fun!”

Even if he saw his favourite item on the display, he wouldn’t pout cutely and wait for Kibum-hyung to buy it for him.
“We look like geeks.” Kevin giggled, hands holding onto Kibum’s arm as if Kibum was his escort. He used a finger to poke the screen, squealing when he found a cute game.
Kibum rolled his eyes and retrieved his arm from Kevin’s embrace, reminding the younger that he needed to concentrate on his “oh-so-adorable!” game when he protested.
(“I hate you, Kim Kibum!”)
The seven of them all wore disguises (mainly super-geeky-but-no-lenses spectacles) and visited the electronic shops that sells desktops, laptops, palmtops, and whatever-else top.
Dongho stopped himself right in front of the newest device and asked many questions regarding it, even questioning the price and how long it has been since it was released.
Anyone could tell he was immensely interested and probably wanted it badly.
Except that when Kibum reached for his wallet, Dongho instantly walked away and acted as if he was curious as to what game Kevin was playing.
If he wanted something, he would earn the money with his hard work, himself.
That’s what real man does.
-
Even if he was hungry, he wouldn’t ask Eli-hyung to cook him food.
“I’m hungry.” Alexander sulked, poking Kibum before hurrying to retract his hand. “Eli, cook us something!”
Kibum grumbled a bit, knowing exactly what Alexander’s action meant. In favour of his growling stomach however, he agreed. “I want something too.”
Kevin and Soohyun both chorused that thought.
“We haven’t ate dinner, of course you’re all hungry.” Kiseop intelligently grinned.
Eli sighed, resigned to his fate but deciding to pull someone along with him. “Well then, Mr. Smartiepants, get over here and help me.”
Kiseop instantly grabbed onto Dongho as if the younger was an anchor to the ground. “I’m watching TV!”
Eli was about to roll his eyes and drag Kiseop with him when Dongho said he wasn’t hungry. The six older members were left stunned as he continued, saying he would be out for a while.
He didn’t let them know he was going out to eat in a convenience store.
-
Even if he doesn’t know how to do the dance move right, he refuses to go to Soohyun-hyung.
“Dongho, that’s wrong.” The choreographer said sternly. “You’re off beat, faster. Try again.”
Soohyun blinked at the younger boy, waiting, just waiting, for him to whine his way through this and ask Soohyun for help. Whether shushing the scary choreographer or becoming the nice guy to teach him to get on beat, just waiting.
“Okay.” Dongho nodded solemnly, trying again. He was just unable to coordinate both his hands and legs while trying to get on beat, but he had to try again.
Kevin bit his lower lip worriedly, cowering behind Kibum as if afraid of whatever would happen to Dongho.
“He never pushed himself so hard.” Kevin whispered, almost begging Soohyun to go help.
When the older moved towards Dongho, the youngest stretched his legs sideways and slid away.
“I can do this.” Dongho smiled confidently, despite himself on the verge of giving up. He urged so badly to run to Soohyun and hug the older man from behind like a koala, demanding him to help get those scrutinizing eyes away from his form, but Dongho fought it.
Like a man he wants to be.
-
Dongho finally fell from relying too much on himself, whether on menial jobs or performances. After three hours, he opened his eyes and found himself in a white room, seeing an angel.
Nah, it’s only Kevin-hyung.
“You’re awake?” Kevin chuckled and ruffled the younger’s hair. “Good thing I banned Xander-hyung from your ward, he wouldn’t forgive you for tiring yourself till you have to be wheeled into the hospital. Be prepared for a lecture when you get back~! Soohyun’s trying to stop him but you know how Xander-hyung is. For now, just sleep. Kiseop’s getting your teddy bear for you. Eli’s making porridge for you, and no, you aren’t allowed to skip it.”
Dongho weakly smiled, watching as Kevin adjusted his blanket so he was properly covered.
“Silly magnae, we’re always here for you, so don’t you try to distance yourself from us. I like you better when you whine for our attention. Understand?”
“Yes, mommy.” Dongho jokingly called out with a toothy grin.
Once upon a time, he was a spoilt brat. Since they want him back, may once upon a time be his happily ever after.
“Hyung.”
“Hm?”
“I want candy.”
