the music of billie holiday is like heroin for me.  it seems fine to spend all day doing nothing but listeing to her sing.  which is what her recordings have the magic of, that .  the unrehearsed polishedness, so weak and so strong,  it's weird how what one says and doesn't say gets tripped up here with so many heartfelt cliches
