I know this is a really vague questions, but what can I do with S2 customization? I am really new to LJ, and completely new to programming. I have changed some stuff on my journal (colors and text), but that was through the wizard

The best way to do it, in my opinion, is to find the source code for the layout you want to work with and edit it one piece at a time. To do that, you'd copy one function (like the EntryPage or something) and then just edit the HTML and text and see how the changes affect your page.
It's a lot more complicated than that, but once you've familiarized yourself with the process, it becomes easy. If you've already looked around the S2 styles and layers section, then you might find it easier than I did at first.
The real trick for me is keeping up with updates to the LJ style I'm working with. When LJ makes a significant change, sometimes your customizations still work (but without some new features perhaps), and sometimes your customizations mess up your page because they're not accounting for some new required piece of the puzzle...
