I finally saw 'Truth or consequences' the other night. I'd read some of the boards, reviews and reactions to the opener before I got to see the episode. From what I'd read, I wasn't expecting to enjoy it.
I really really liked it.
There were a few things that bothered me such as messianic omnipresent Gibbs at the end, a couple of clichéd moments, and the Caf-Pow stuff (amongst other things) was a little far-fetched, but I can live with them.
I loved the 'team character study' nature of the episode. I loved Tony's struggle against the truth serum. I loved the switching between time periods. I loved Tim and Tony's friendship. I loved the 'Grab your gear' montage and Tony's 'No' (repetition included). I loved the shoulder holster. I loved that Tony (and Tim) played hero throughout the episode, right up until Gibbs swooped in to save the day in true Gibbs fashion. (This is NCIS - Gibbs is the hero.) I loved the look that Tim gave Tony as he walked to his desk - whilst everyone was clapping Gibbs (et al) for bringing them home safely.
I think the writers did some really good work on:-
1. Restoring the DiNozzo/McGee friendship that seemed to be lacking in S6;
2. Further developing the Gibbs/DiNozzo mutual respect; and,
3. The Vance/Team interaction.
Haven’t seen the NCIS: LA opener yet. Plan to watch that this weekend sometime.
