Camp FST!

May 13, 2006 00:06

This is a pretty loose sort of fst -- camp related songs, pretty much. Mostly they're related to Kon and Clark, or characters that Kon interacts with a lot -- Lex, Lady, Heather and Bart are represented -- but there are some more random ones as well, ie Jak and Ling Tong (if I got his name wrong sorry, it's really late here and I'm dead tired). This is also my first FST, so please bear with me.

Also huge, huge thanks to Fllay-mun, who helped me find more than half of these. She is awesome, and I wish to have her tentacle babies.

Clark:

Nuclear by Ryan Adams.

Island in the Sun by Weezer.

These two are pretty mellow, happy sounding songs, taken from the Smallville Season One Soundtrack. I'm including them because despite his efforts over the last few days, Clark is not an angst bucket, and he should remember that.

Space Sonic by Ellegarden.

I owe Ryuuken for giving me this song way back -- it is such a Clark song. Ever felt 'like you're the worst mankind on the planet Earth'? Yeah.

Mr Brightside by the Killers.

For some reason, this song reminds me of this moment first season just after Clark's developed xray vision, and the implication is that he can see Lana (who he really likes) doing stuff with her boyfriend and he asks his Mom 'what do you do when you can see everything?' and Martha says 'Learn to close my eyes.'

Renegade Fighter by Zed.

I stamped the hands of all the band members of Zed one year when they came to a concert at my Uni -- they're from my city. This song was played during the third episode of Smallville, and well. Could be a Kon song or a Clark song, but I'm putting it here. Thanks Lex for giving me this copy of the song.

Lex: Buttons and Zips by Elbow.

Can't explain this one. Just feels right. Also has the line 'Tom came out in June, to a crowded room, no one was shocked' which just amuses me -- Clark is played by a guy called Tom Welling.

Kal:

My Favourite Things by Me First and the GimmeGimme's.

Yeah, I know how egocentric it is to include Kal in this but download the song, okay? It's special.

Kon:

Wonderboy by Tenacious D.

Repimping this song - I first met it when Bart cited it as a Kon song, and I immediately fell in love. So Kon gets it, though picturing Lex and Clark doing this song is immensely amusing and I recommend it muchly. Download it because the song includes the words 'monkey muck' more than once.

Greg ... The Stop Sign!!!

Hardwired into everyone's head
Is the person they're gonna be -
Growing up is not a matter of choice,
It's a matter of wait and see.

Yeah. Pretty self explanatory, although this was nearly a Lex song, because of the verse about posh cars -- 'Bought a car just the other day, man could that baby run. But you know what they always say, there's always a faster one' -- and the fact that for some weird reason, Clark thinks you need to drive more carefully, Lex.

All Right by Tadpole.

Tadpole's another NZ band, and All Right is a rather bitter, nasty song -- but then, so is Kon's Subconscious. He's his own harshest critic, deep down, and I think this song really gets that -- not that Kon would ever admit that IC. Download it, you'll love it!

Red Hot by Elle Garden.

Thanks again, Ryuuken. I knew this was a Kon song the moment I heard it. Starts off slow, but then really gets it. I'm growing up to be a better man, but I always fail, I'm such a dirty bug. I want to grab the flag but there's always someone faster. Yeah, Bart.

American English by Idlewind.

Go, Kon's ego. Roam free.

Superman's Dead by Our Lady Peace.

Again, originally pimped by Bart but so appropriate. Thanks Bart!

Not pimping Queen's 'Don't Stop Me Now' because you all should know it already, but really Ultimate Kon Song.

Kon and Buffy:

Life Less Ordinary.
Kon POV song - with the lyrics 'I'm a saddened man, I'm a broken boy, I'm a toddler with a complex toy', how could it not be? Luckily, Buffy and Kon got together, which paves the way for the next song:

Slice of Heaven by Dave Dobbyn.

Break out the sap. Note: this song is awesome. And cheesy as all hell. But the lines 'Hey, Beauty, when the mood gets you down, your bottom lip's near dragging on the ground, that's when I gotta play the clown for ya. Black humour makes you kick your blues.' does describe a good deal of Buffy and Kon.

I Want You by Third Eye Blind.

Repimping -- I think Bart put this song on her Kon/Buffy fst way back and I'm still liking it. Send me all your vampires.

Whaling by Dave Dobbyn.

It's the self-mocking aspect of the opening, and the temporariness of the situation that gets this one here - Kon is aware there are many forces pulling him and Buffy apart and that they probably won't last after camp. He's just wilfully ignoring this.

Bart:

Cruise Control.

Another kiwi band. Why Bart? Opening lines are "Sometimes days seem to move just like a big fat man". Yeah.

Better Days by Tadpole.

Tadpole's official music video for this was a total DragonballZ piss-take. It was awesome. Anyway, this was almost a Clark song, but the pace and the lyrics 'I feel in slomo' made it a Bart choice in the end. Weird that both my Bart songs are sung by chicks, huh?

Feels Like Today by Rascall Flatts.
This is a Bart song sung by a guy! Anyway, this is the song from the episode of Smallville where Bart shows up which was the first episode of Smallville I ever watched, and we're all just lucky I didn't end up associating 'Save Me' with Bart instead or something. Anyway, I like this song and I refuse to believe that it's country. It's also somewhat Bart.

Young Justice:Loyal.

It's the second verse that gets me.
Out in the battle, flung far and used.
Where does allegiance lie?
Sometimes when all of your hopes, and all of your dreams,
Are too much to value in one moment.
And all of us anxious, but why hurry love?
History's here and now.
Oh and why are you waiting - waiting for what?
The history of some love?

Robin + Lady OTP:Shouldn't you ought to be in Love by Dave Dobbyn.

Okay, this? Requires explanation. Kon ships Lady and Robin like woah, and this song is cheesy, sappy, over the top, but it is pretty much Kon's view on his team-mate and his need for a girlfriend. Also, Kon could probably hit the high notes and would be very ashamed of being able to do so (I have no canon basis for this belief but it is deeply held nonetheless).

Heather: Brightest Star.

Not voiced by Heather -- voiced about Heather. Or Cheryl. Or maybe Alessa. You'll see.

Lady: Beautiful.

Don't be fooled by the title. This one isn't pleasant at all.

Jak: Choppers.

Wanna talk about art, we'll teach you how to draw some blood. This song could actually apply to a lot of camps shounen retards (Anakin, for the droid reference) but Jak wins on account of bitterness and recent conversations about alien invasions. ♥

Ling Tong: Straight Out of Canton by the Notorious MSG.

Kon gave this song to Ling Tong as his secret santa gift. If there's one song you guys download out of this selection, this is a strong contender for it. Pure, delicious, crack.

Zombies: Re: Your Brains by Jonathon Coulton.

I'm glad to see you take constructive criticism well, thank you for your time I know we're all busy as Hell. And we'll put this thing to bed, when I smash your head open -- screaming all we want to do is eat your brains ...

And randomly, Teen Titans by Puffy AmiYumi. Beast Boy, Starfire, woes. ;_;

ETA: Million $ Dream by the Headless Chickens.

This is kind of the song of Kon's Lex-side. It's also a song that I think Kon would listen to. It's bitter, a little snarky -- hey, maybe this should be the theme to Kon and Lady and Lex's anon we hate our Fathers threads.

ETA: Can't Get Enough by Supergroove.

This one could be audience or player -- I think it encapsulates a lot of our attitudes to camp. Also a kiwi band.
