Chapter 17: In which Toma tries to find out what would be the best… to all of them…
Toma wasn’t sure how much time did he spend locked up in the bathroom till he calmed down. He was dead tired but there was no way he would make another attempt to get back his room and bed, let alone sleeping in Jun’s room! And since the living room was a mess he couldn’t even sleep on the couch. So he decided to clean up muddle what Jun made in the living room. It still was better than just sitting and waiting for the morning comes and Jun wakes up…
It already passed noon when Jun woke up and lurched straight into the kitchen. The younger guy just finished washing the dishes and turned toward the model while wiped his hand.
“There’s the painkiller on the counter” he said but didn’t look at Jun in the eye. “Your manager called earlier. He was furious 'cause you missed the photo shoot in the morning. I told him you’re sick and couldn’t go. You're off till Monday…” as soon as Toma finished the sentence he fled from the kitchen to hi room.
Jun stared at the closed door for a few minutes. Now he had no idea what’s in Toma’s mind. Till now he always shouted and quarreled with him, now he almost… takes care of him… And nevertheless he makes him feel these weird feelings… At the end Jun gave up trying to figure out Toma’s mind. The more he thought about it, the more his head ached; and it had nothing to do with the hangover… He sighed and swallowed the medicine Toma prepared to him.
When he left the kitchen the younger guy was already at the entrance hall taking his shoes though his hair was still wet from the quick shower.
“Are you going somewhere?” Jun asked the younger one though the answer was obvious. As soon as the question slipped from his lips, Jun was aware that Toma would start fighting with him again as always.
But he didn’t.
“I promised Aiba-chan to help him to prepare today’s party…” Toma said and turned his back to Jun as he put his hand on the doorknob. “Don’t be late! Aiba-chan really expects you to be there…” he added before left the flat.
Jun could notice the hurt in Toma’s voice. It’s only… he didn’t understand it…
Toma walked slowly on the crowded Tokyo streets. He had more than two hours till the meeting time with Aiba but he didn’t want to stay at home any more. Alone with Jun…
He didn’t even understand himself… After how Jun treated him all the time, after the previous night… he even lied to his manager to his sake! Though the only thing he should’ve done to tell him the truth. That Jun was too drunk to remember the photo shoot, let alone get up in time for that… But he knew that it would cause a lot of problem to the model and he didn’t want that. He was too precious to him to do it…
During the night, while he cleaned up the mess in the living room, once he even thought about he should do what his father planned… If Sho would fall for him, Jun would get Aiba back to him and he would be happy (even if his happiness would cost three other people’s unhappiness…) But deep in his heart, Toma knew that this whole plan was foredoomed to failure. Sho was too much in love with Aiba to be tempted that easily; and Toma already fell too hard for Jun to even try tempting Sho…
Toma sighed tiredly when his mobile started ringing. The ringtone made it obvious that his father is the caller.
“Moshi-moshi?”
“Toma! Come to my office, right now! I wasted enough time to wait for you to do something about Sakurai-kun’s case. From now on, you have to do what I tell you to do!” his father’s voice snapped on the other end of the line.
Hearing this Toma sighed again and rubbed his temple trying to find a good excuse for not going there.
“I can’t. I have something to do tonight…” he said finally.
“I don’t care. Cancel it and come here!” Ikuta-san ordered his son.
“Actually… I’ll meet Sho tonight…” Toma said though it was just a part of the truth.
“In this case, I expect you to come to my office will be the first thing you do tomorrow morning and report me!” with this the older man hang up.
Toma sighed third time and headed to the Sakuraiba apartment more depressed than before…
“Ne, Aiba-chan…” Toma said while he was chopping the vegetables to the dinner.
“Nani?” Aiba asked and glanced at the younger smiling.
“What do you like in Sho-kun?” Toma asked and didn’t dare to look up when he felt his cheek blushing.
Aiba stared at him for a few seconds then grinned widely.
“Everything” he said simply. “He’s nice to me, takes care of me, and doesn’t get angry when I speak or do silly things, which happens all the time… And mainly because he never stopped loving me and still remembers everything…” Aiba said with shining eyes.
Toma looked up curious at this.
“What do you mean by ‘he still remembers everything’”?
“I ha a car accident when I was a kid. My parents died back then and I lost all my memories about what happened till that time… But Sho-chan remembers everything what was between us back then… And you know what?” Aiba leaned closer to Toma as if he was afraid that someone would eavesdrop though there was none in the apartment beside the two of them. “The memories started to flow back to me too recently… But don’t tell this to Sho-chan!”
Toma nodded only then both of them continued the dinner preparing. There was silence in the kitchen for a while then Aiba started to babbly about the shelter. Toma was really grateful for this cause like this he could deal with his own thoughts without being disturbed. He just had to hum every now and then as he was paying attention to whatever Aiba was saying (even though he wasn’t)…
Half an hour later the front door was opened and the soft ‘Tadaima!’ made it obvious that Sho came home. Aiba dropped immediately whatever was in his hands (fortunately it was only a plastic salad bowl) and run out the kitchen to greet his lover.
“Okaeriiii, Sho-chan!” he shouted happily and the sounds helped Toma imagine as Aiba jump on Sho and kissing him as a greeting.
Suddenly felt sick. Everything that Aiba told to him, that he saw with his own eyes crushed him down. How could he… even think about helping his father to separate this two?
His hand was shaking so much he had to put down the knife if he didn’t want to harm himself.
“Daijoubu, Toma-chan?”
Hearing Aiba’s worried voice the younger one looked up. Sho and Aiba was standing at the kitchen door looking at him with more (Aiba) or less (Sho) concern on their face. Toma smiled at them weakly.
“Yeah, I’m okay, just… have to go to the bathroom…” he said and stumbled out the kitchen.
Aiba looked at Sho with concern and perplexity in his eyes but the older man just shrugged and went to their bedroom to change…
A few hours later, when all six of them finished the dinner and the half an hour long fight over what movie should they watch after this. But in the end they managed to chose one.
Aiba looked around with happily shining eyes.
Sho and Ohno took the challenge of the dishes but they joked and laughed more than doing the dishes. Toma and Nino sat on the living room couch arguing about that the newest Mario Kart was better (Toma: “it makes easier to you to get bonus coins!”) or worse (Nino: “you only say this cause you suck at it and otherwise you wouldn’t be able to complete even the first level!”) than the other games. Jun stood at the living room door with a drink in his hand and watched Toma.
Aiba grinned and sneaked behind the model.
“Ne, Jun-pon… Are you and Toma-chan okay?” he asked whispered not wanting the couple on the couch hear him.
The model jumped a bit and grabbed his chest as he turned to Aiba.
“Ma-chan! Don’t do it again, you almost gave me a heart attack!” Jun said and rubbed his chest. “And why on earth do you ask this kind of things? Are looking like we’re not okay?” he asked and prayed to any god who might listen to him that Aiba’s answer will be ‘no’. He knew that his relationship with Toma is everything but ‘okay’ and that this is mostly his fault. But he really didn’t want to talk this with Aiba…
“No, not really… just…” Aiba started and glanced at Toma who was laughing at something Nino said to him. “you hardly speak two words whole night… And I was wondering that maybe you’re too harsh with him…” he mused aloud.
Jun swallowed nervous. It was only a few months since Aiba moved out but he already forget how easily the older guy looked through him.
“We need some more time to get along well…” Jun admitted unwillingly. “Don’t forget that I’m not you; this whole being friendly thing is not that easy to me…”
“Okay… Just don’t be too rough with him… He has enough problems with his father without your bitching…” Aiba said seriously.
Jun looked up at this.
“What do you mean by this?”
“It’s something you should ask from him…” Aiba shrugged and went back to the kitchen to check if Sho and Ohno changed the place into a pool already or not?
Jun turned back to Toma just when the younger guy stood up to grab a can of beer from the table next to Jun. But during the whole act he didn’t even look at the model. He just wanted to go back to Nino when Jun grabbed his elbow and pulled him back.
“Did you plan on ignoring me all night?” he asked silently.
Toma looked up at him and their eyes met immediately.
“I don’t know what you are talking about… I think we don’t have anything to say to each other…” Toma said trying to keep his voice calm. But when he wanted to turn away again, Jun’s hold on his arm became tighter.
“What’s wrong with you?” Jun asked and annoyance rand in his voice.
“That should be my line! Recently you always bitching about me not talking to you though it was you who said leave each other alone! And now I would appreciate if you let me go… Go and annoy Aiba!” Toma whispered angrily.
Jun felt like Toma would’ve slapped him and his fingers loosened on Toma’s arm (which the younger followed up to flees back to Nino). The model wasn’t surprised that Toma came up with Aiba again but that there was jealousy in his voice…
