Chapter 18: New home
“Everything’s good, the baby is healthy and growing nicely, Aiba-kun” the doctor said as they watched the ultrasound monitor. “Just a few more weeks till your labor…”
Aiba nodded happily at his words.
“I can’t wait to hold him in my arms!” he said and smiled shyly.
The doctor laughed at this.
“I was sure of it. I don’t remember meeting other couples who was more eager to see their baby than you and Sakurai-kun…” he said. “Here’s the picture of your baby boy. The next one probably will be a real photo…”
“Arigatou!” Aiba took the picture and starred at it with teary eyes.
The doctor shook his head in amazement. He was sure that Aiba and Sho will be really outstanding parents (and not because they both were men…)
Aiba finished buttoning his oversized shirt he wore and sat on the edge of the examination bed.
“So are we finished, doc? Can I go?” he asked blinking cutely at the elder man.
“Yeah, we’re finished…” the doctor said and Aiba slid off the bed immediately. “But wait a bit, Aiba-kun…” he added quickly. “Actually… it’s not really my business but… as your doctor I’d say that you should go back to the capital… before the labor… Cause here I’m not sure that I can guarantee your and the baby’s safety… It’s a small hospital. The most of our tools are old and I rarely had to help babies to be born let alone a special one like yours…” he explained.
“I understand but… we can’t go back to Tokyo…” Aiba said shaking his head furiously.
“If you don’t want to go there then at least to Fukuoka… There are bigger hospitals with more doctors and better equipment…” the doctor recommended.
Aiba said nothing at this. Neither him, nor Sho wanted to go to Fukuoka. Not to move there at least. But for the baby’s sake… maybe that’d be okay… ‘That’d be just a few weeks, right?’ Aiba tried to reassure himself but couldn’t forget his bad feeling. Couldn’t help thinking that something terrible will happen if they go there…
“Okay, we’ll think about that, doc… Thanks for everything…” he said finally smiling at the doctor then waved him goodbye and left the small clinic…
Aiba walked back to the café. Even he couldn’t (or more likely the others didn’t let him) work, he still hang out in the café most of the time cause he didn’t want to be alone but Sho was always busy with his job or looking for a new place for them. As much as Aiba wanted to help at least in the search, Sho didn’t let that either and he made it clear a few days ago…
“It’s my duty as the man to make a home to us!” he said stubbornly and proudly in the same time.
“Do you try to say with that I’m not a man?” Aiba asked offended and pouted.
Sho didn’t answer immediately just blinked at the younger boy as if he didn’t understand what Aiba was talking about.
“No, of course I didn’t mean it like that” he said then quickly.
But he couldn’t convince Aiba this easily.
“Don’t lie to me! You do think that I’m not a man…” Aiba said with trembling lips and started crying hard.
Sho panicked.
“Please, baby, don’t cry! I swear, I didn’t mean like that! You’re a man! You’re a very manly man…” he said awkwardly. “So please don’t cry… You’re even manlier than I am…” he tried.
At this Aiba stopped crying and looked at his lover with puffy, teary eyes.
“Hontou?” he asked.
“Yeah… sure…” Sho said partly relieved that Aiba wasn’t crying anymore.
Because of his mood-swings, Aiba tended to break down crying over anything and everything and usually it too way more effort to calm him down again, not like this time.
“So will you let me help?” the younger boy asked looking at Sho with eager-puppy eyes.
But Sho didn’t change his mind.
“No”
“Why?” Aiba asked pouting again.
“Because…” Sho tried to choose his words carefully not to make Aiba cry again. “Because I want to do it to… prove you that I’m worthy of your love…” he said finally but it sounded so cheesy to his ears that Sho thanked God that Nino wasn’t there to hear it. He would tease him with this till his death…
“Oh…” Aiba blushed; he was touched and kind of taken aback by this answer. “Okay then…” he gave in.
Sho sighed relieved…
Aiba and Ohno were sitting in the living room and chatted about Ohno’s latest fishing trip rather loudly while Nino prepared dinner in the kitchen.
“Would you please make less noise? You’re so loud I can’t even hear my own thoughts!” Nino said them annoyed; he felt he’ll be seasick just by hearing them talking so much about the sea…
The other two went silent immediately.
“Gomen…” the mumbled in union.
There was silence for a while, only the sounds of chopping came from the kitchen. After some time Aiba and Ohno started again their conversation and soon they were just as loud as before. Nino groaned annoyed and just when he opened his mouth to snap at the noisy pair again the front door of the Ohmiya apartment burst open and Sho stormed in.
“Found it!” he shouted victorious running straight to the living room and pulled up his surprised lover to kiss him deeply.
Everyone was stunned by this not having the slightest clue what Sho was talking about.
“Wh…what did you find, Sho-chan?” Aiba asked panting when the older man finally broke the kiss.
“The house! Our new home, I found it!” Sho explained.
“Really? Where is it? How is it? When can I see it? Is it nice? I’m sure it’s nice… Sho-chan wouldn’t choose an ugly place, nee?” Aiba said and clapped his hands happily.
Sho laughed at Aiba’s enthusiasm and kissed him again.
“It’s great, Sho-kun” Ohno joined in the conversation too. “So where is it?” he asked too curious.
“Oh, it’s the old Yamamoto’s house… You know the one near the beach…” Sho told to him as he sat down next to Aiba.
“Eeeeehh?”
A loud crashing noise came from the kitchen as Nino dropped the frying pan and came running to the living room.
“Don’t tell me you bought that…!” he said with a horrified expression on his face.
Sho stared back at him with wide eyes.
“I did…” he mumbled.
“Eeeeehh? But that’s a ruin not a house!” Nino protested.
“It’s not that bad, so don’t say this! And it was cheap cause it’s need a little renovation” Sho said defensively.
“Little renovation? That needs to be rebuilt not renovated!” Nino kept protesting. “Are you out of your mind or something, aniki?” he asked and seemed he’d attack Sho any minute.
“Kazu, Kazu, calm down!” Ohno said pulling his lover to his chest holding him tightly. “Don’t shout with Sho-kun like that. Look, you’re frightening Ma-chan…” he said pointing at the pregnant boy who looked back and forth between his boyfriend and Nino.
“But that old man tricked aniki!” Nino still protest but didn’t make any attempt to brake free from Ohno’s hold (not that he’d have any chance…)
“I wasn’t!” Sho retorted. “And I’d appreciate if you’d stop butting in our life finally!” he shouted back at Nino angrily. “Come on, Masaki, we’re going home…” he said still staring at Nino while took Aiba’s hand and they left the apartment without saying anything else…
For the next few days Aiba didn’t see Nino or Ohno. Sho decided to prove Nino that he wasn’t tricked at that house was perfect for him, Aiba and their baby. So he closed down the assembly shop for a while to work on their house instead with all his might. And of course he needed Aiba as well to help. Not in the exact work of course but he needed his opinion how it should be. Because he wanted everything to be just as Aiba wants it.
Aiba on the other hand was happy to be able to be with Sho all day this way but he definitely didn’t like the fact that Sho and Nino weren’t talking with each other. He thought he understands why Nino was always ‘butting in their life’ and he wanted Sho to understand too, yet he didn’t want to anger him further so in the end he decided that’d be better if he waits patiently till they make-up on their own. No matter how long it will take (but he really hoped it won’t take that much time…)
And this time his hopes seemed to be fulfilled…
The fifth day after their fight, Nino and Ohno appeared at the new house. Or more likely Ono kind of dragged Nino along who had no other choice than following him but he did that rather reluctantly.
“Nii-san! Nino!” Aiba cried out surprised when he spotted the couple and slowly got up from the stairs where he was sitting.
“Hi, Ma-chan!” Ohno waved to him smiling.
At Aiba’s voice Sho appeared from the house too.
“What are you doing here?” he asked almost hostile.
Nino flinched a bit knowing this tone was because of him.
“We came to help” Ohno answered grinning.
“Hontou?” Aiba asked with a beaming smile.
“Yeah…” Nino murmured and stepped closer to Sho. “And… I’m sorry, aniki…” he said lowering his head a bit.
Sho looked at him frowning for a second then smiled and hugged the shorter man.
“It’s okay. I know that you just wanted the best to us…” he said when he let Nino go. “Come on, there’s a lot to do here…” he added with a grin and they all followed him inside…
“You know what, Nino…” Aiba started.
They were alone now cause Sho and Ohno went to buy something to eat while they took a break from work but the two younger stayed back at the house.
“What?” Nino asked looking at the pregnant boy next to him.
“I like this. The house, I mean. It’s… somehow suits to us with Sho-chan…” he said as he studied the front of the house.
Nino followed his gaze.
“Maybe you’re right… Moving out from a one-room apartment to a run-down house is so typically aniki…” he said mocking but a grin his in the corner of his lips. “If I know him well, and you know I do, he’ll make even bigger mess from this place than at your current apartment. You won’t be able to keep cleaning up after him…” he added snarky.
“Oi! Don’t be mean, Nino!” Aiba protested cause he felt it’s his duty to protect his lover’s reputation but actually he was agreeing with the shorter guy’s words.
“You know I’m right” Nino repeated grinning at Aiba then walked into the house.
As Aiba wanted to follow him his phone rang. He looked at the unknown number at the screen then shrugging his shoulder he answered.
“Moshi-moshi? Aiba desu…” he said.
“Don’t go to Fukuoka” the caller said.
“What?” Aiba asked confused as he recognized Jun’s voice.
“Don’t go to Fukuoka. No matter what!” Jun repeated than hang up simply confusing Aiba even more.
The boy was still staring at his phone when Sho and Ohno came back with a large amount of food a few minutes later…
