Note3: gomen, there’s no Nino in it…

Sho happily hummed along with the radio as he prepared dinner for his boyfriend and him. Hiroto promised to get home early today since it was their anniversary. Sho stopped his movements for a minute and grinned widely. This was his favorite day of the year. Ever since junior high school he was in love with Hiroto, he applied for the same senior high school as the older boy went just to be near with him though it was one of the most high class schools. He confessed to him the day the older boy graduated and to his biggest surprise he was accepted though he never imagined he can match to him. That was exactly eight years ago and this past eight years was the happiest time in Sho’s life. Just to be by Hiro’s side would be enough to him to be happy but it wasn’t just that. Hiroto loved him back, spoiled and pampered him all the time. Sometimes Sho felt like a girl next to him - Sho blushed a bit cause he was in one particular way - but he would lie saying that he didn’t love being taken care of by his loved one… Sho giggled a bit and continued cooking. Hiro will be home soon…
“Whatever it is you’re making, it smells really nice…” someone said hugging Sho from behind startling him a bit.
“Hiro-kun! I didn’t hear you coming, you scared me…” Sho pouted a bit and took the spoon again that he dropped when Hiro startled him.
“Gomen, Sho-baby, didn’t mean that…” the older man laughed and kissed Sho’s cheek.
“It’s okay, I forgive you this time but just because it’s our anniversary…” Sho said teasing a bit and grinned at Hiroto with sparkling eyes. “I need to finish this, why don’t take a bath first?” he suggested.
“Yeah, I better leave you now or we won’t eat anything… You’re too sexy in that apron…” Hiro said patting Sho’s butt.
He gave Sho a passionate kiss which made him blushing madly then the older man left the kitchen. Sho couldn’t stop blushing even after Hiro left knowing very well what the hidden message behind his words was…
***“I see you had a fun night yesterday…”
“Shut up, Aiba-chan!” Sho snapped at his coworker and best friend for his comment but rather out of embarrassment than anger.
“Don’t be like that, Sho-chan, I’m just happy for you! I’m impressed that you came to work at all. It was your anniversary yesterday, wasn’t it? I’m sure Hiro-kun didn’t hold back…”
Aiba was grinning so wide that Sho started to worry about the safety of his friend’s face. He leant to the counter of the small bookstore where they worked and glared at his cheerful friend.
“I know that but would you mind not stating this kind of stuff? It’s… kind of embarrassing…” Sho said stubbornly and pouted.
“But it’s fun to tease Sho-chan!” Aiba reasoned his words.
Sho just raised an eyebrow at this. In his eyes it wasn’t a proper reason at all but Aiba’s mind always worked in some weird way so in the end he just let him be. Not that he would stop the teasing if he’d ask anyway. He stops only when he feels that it was enough…
Sho turned to the awaiting customer who was standing at the cashier.
“That will be 3200 yen, miss” he said smiling politely and after he handed over the change and the book he looked back at his friend next to him.
“Don’t you have work to do?” he asked him. As much as he loved the other guy he’d appreciate if he didn’t have to listen how he’s making fun of his limping anymore.
“Hmm… No, not really…” Aiba said after looking around the almost empty store then back at Sho grinning madly.
Sho turned away from him again sighing loudly.
“Irasshaimase!” he said cheerfully when the ringing tone signaled another customer. Sho’s eyes glinted when he saw the man. “There, why don’t you go and help your crush? He seems to be lost as always…” Sho said glancing at Aiba and now it was his turn to smirk evilly.
“Don’t call him ‘my crush’ cause he’s not. And it’s humiliating, by the way!” Aiba protested offended on the other man’s place.
“He isn’t?” Sho asked raising an eyebrow.
“He isn’t” Aiba confirmed. “He’s the love of my life!” he added proudly and Sho just groaned at him. Aiba was still a child in heart after all, why he was even surprised by him calling someone the ‘love of his life’ whom he never talked, except ‘Can I help you, sir?’...
In the end Aiba did leave Sho alone and bounced to the sleepy faced, short guy who stood in the middle of the shop lost.
“Can I help you, sir?” Aiba asked smiling brightly at him.
“Oh! Yeah, actually… I’m looking for this week’s Fishing Trips. You have that?” he asked looking at Aiba like a hopeful puppy.
“Sure, this way, please…” Aiba said smiling more brightly and lead him to the magazine section.
Sho watched the couple giggling inwardly. That man was coming here from week to week nearly a year and Aiba was ogling all over him since the first day his eyes fell on him. Sho wondered if his friend will ever make a move on him or not. Normally Aiba was far from being shy or bashful still with this man he was. Sho made a mental note to nudge Aiba into confessing or at least asking him out. Maybe if Aiba would have his own love life he will stop making fun out of his. Maybe… Hopefully…
***A few weeks passed peacefully without anything special happening. The only thing Sho wasn’t happy about that during this time he didn’t manage to hook up his friend with Customer-san either. ‘It’s okay for now, cause I definitely will succeed on this! It’s just the matter of time…’ Sho though determined while he changed from his uniform back into his normal clothes and got ready to go home.
“See you tomorrow, Aiba-chan!” Sho bid goodbye to his friend who just arrived to the afternoon shift as he was ready to leave.
“Bye-bye, Sho-chan!” Aiba waved to him smiling as Sho stepped out the bookstore’s backdoor.
Sho headed for the nearest train station while was thinking about he should stop by the convenience store on the way home since they were running out proper food but suddenly he felt dizzy. This happened a few times recently but this time before he could hold onto something - anything - to keep himself from falling and he lost his balance. The last thing he felt his head hitting the ground before everything turned black around him and he lost his consciousness…
Sho woke up at unfamiliar noises around him which suspiciously sounded as the sounds of a hospital. He opened his eyes slowly and looked around and indeed he was in hospital but about how he got there he had no idea. He pushed himself into sitting position then just as he wanted to get out of the bed - ‘That fainting must be because of lack of sleeping, that’s all…’ he thought - the door opened and a doctor entered.
“Great, you woke up!” the man said. “Your name is Sakurai, right? According to the ID we found at you when you were brought in…”
“Yeah, that’s me” Sho confirmed nodding. “Can I go home now, doctor? Actually I should’ve arrived home already…” he said as he looked at his watch.
“Uhuh… you can go home soon, just a few questions…” the doctor said. “You know why you’re here?”
“I faint on the street, didn’t I? It’s nothing big, I felt dizzy recently but indeed I got a little less sleep nowadays than normally…” Sho answered.
“That might be but that wasn’t the only or main reason” the doctor shook his head. “Actually, you’re pregnant, Sakurai-san…”
“What? Don’t joke with this, doctor! How should I be pregnant? I’m a man, after all…” Sho protested and laughed.
“It’s not that as unique thing as you think. There were other male pregnancy cases all around the world in the last years and though we still didn’t found the medical reason behind it, it considered as a genetic development, a step forward in evolution if you want to put it that way…” the doctor explained.
“You’re not kidding, right?” Sho asked still couldn’t believe that what he was hearing is true.
“Am not. You are pregnant, Sakurai-san. Actually, I have to thank you, since it’s the first time I met someone special like you though I was interested in this subject for quite some time already” the doctor added smiling.
“Your welcome, I guess…” Sho mumbled.
Saying he was shocked was an understatement but he couldn’t help feeling incredibly happy at the same time. ‘Am I really pregnant? Will I have a child from Hiro? This must be a dream but even if it is, then I don’t want to wake up…’
“You can go home now, Sakurai-san, but please take care of your health very carefully. If you have any questions about your pregnancy, feel free to contact me anytime, I’d gladly help you” the doctor said in the end handing his name card to Sho.
“Thank you, sensei!” Sho said bowing then rushed out to get home as soon as possible. He couldn’t wait to tell the good news to Hiroto!...
“Tadaima!” Sho said as he kicked off his shoes at the door and hurried inside the apartment.
“You’re late” Hiro said getting up from the couch. “Where were you? We should’ve had dinner with my parents but I had to excuse us since you were nowhere to be found and I couldn’t reach you!” the older man said and he seemed to be very angry.
Sho lowered his head guiltily at this. Hiroto took his family really seriously. His father had a small company that one day Hiro will take over and it was really important to him. Sho always did his best not be the source of problems between Hiroto and his father. To his parents that was hard enough to accept that their son was together with another man. It wasn’t a problem on Sho’s side since he lost his parents in a car accident a little after he started high school. It was the other reason why he always tried to fit in Hiro’s family, that he didn’t have his own…
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to cause trouble with your father…” he said on a low voice.
“It happened already, being sorry won’t change a thing about it” Hiro said still angry. “Will you tell me finally where the hell were you?”
“At the hospital… I… have to tell you something, Hiro-kun…” Sho started anxiously.
“What is it?” Hiro asked he seemed to be little less angry and more worried at the mention of hospital.
Sho tugged at the hem of his shirt. He was happy about the news he was about to tell Hiro, he really was but he wasn’t sure how he will react to it and it made he anxious a lot.
“It will sound weird so please don’t get angry… Okay?” Sho asked glancing at his boyfriend cautiously.
“Okay, you’re freaking me out, Sho. What is it? I won’t get angry just tell me already!” Hiro said impatiently.
“It… turned out that…” Sho mumbled dropping his gaze from the other guy’s face and took a deep breath. “I’m pregnant…”
“What?” Hiro asked immediately and his high pitched voice made it clear that he was angry.
“I’m pregnant” Sho repeated slowly looking up.
“I heard that the first time already so please don’t repeat this bullshit anymore, would you? Instead tell me how the hell did that happen? You’re a man, how could you get pregnant?” Hiro said disgusted and Sho felt his heart sinking at this.
“The doctor said it’s not an unusual thing. There are other male pregnancy cases everywhere in the world. It’s a… genetic development!” Sho said desperately. “Aren’t you happy about it, Hiro-kun?”
“Happy? How should I be happy about that my boyfriend is a freak?” Hiro asked yelling at Sho.
Sho’s eyes widened and he felt tears blurring his sight at the older man’s cruel words.
“Get rid off it!”
“What?” Sho asked shocked.
“I said get rid off it!” Hiro repeated without batting an eyelash.
“But… Why?... I…” Sho stuttered confused.
“This or get out of here…” Hiro said with finality in his voice. “I’m not willing to live together with a freak…”
“You mean you want to kill our baby?...” Sho asked when he managed to find his voice finally.
“Don’t talk about that thing if it would be normal!” Hiro shouted at him interrupting his words.
“But… but I… thought you’ll be… happy… I… I want… want to keep…” Sho said and he started to cry.
“Then get out of here!”
“Please, Hiro-kun, don’t say that!...” Sho pleaded reaching his hand to the older man but Hiro pushed him away disappearing in the other room, leaving the crying Sho in the living room.
A few minutes later Hiro came back pushing an overstuffed sportsbag into Sho’s chest.
“Get out! Now!” he ordered him coldly.
“Don’t… Please…” Sho tried again but Hiro didn’t give him the chance. He grabbed his arm dragging Sho to the door pushing him out and throwing his shoes and coat after him.
“Don’t ever come back!” he said and shut the door into Sho’s sobbing face…
***Aiba looked up confused when he heard his doorbell ringing. It was almost midnight and he was getting ready to go to bed since tomorrow he’ll be on morning shift. ‘Who can it be this late?’ Aiba thought as he shuffled to open the door.
“Sho-chan?” he asked surprised when he found his friend on the doorstep. Sho was hugging a sportsbag to his chest his eyes were red and puffy from crying and tears were still flowing down on his cheeks. “What happened?” Aiba asked honestly worried as he pulled him into the apartment.
“I… it’s… Hi-hi-hiro… H-he… br-broke up… with… m-me…” Sho hiccupped falling on his knees.
“Why?” Aiba asked shocked to hear such news since Sho and Hiro were the happiest, most harmonious couple he knew. Then why? How?
“The baby… He said… he doesn’t want… to get rid off it… that I’m a… a freak…” Sho said incoherently.
It confused Aiba even more but in the end but it seemed Sho wasn’t able to explain it properly now - which was understandable - so he decided to let it go for now. They still can discuss it tomorrow or later. Now the important thing is to help Sho calm down and get him into bed to sleep. That’s what Sho needs now the most. Aiba hugged his friend closer to his body.
“It’s okay, Sho-chan, it will be okay…” he murmured to him caressing his hair till his sobs and hiccups faded a bit then he gently pulled him up from the floor and led him to his futon to lay down and soon Sho was sleeping passed out from that much crying…
Next day when Sho finally woke up around noon, he found Aiba sitting next to him watching him intently.
“Ohayou, Aiba-chan…” Sho murmured rubbing his eyes as he sat up. “Anou… Sorry for yesterday… I didn’t want to break in your life out of blue but… I had nowhere to go…” he told sadly.
Aiba smiled at him understanding.
“It’s okay, Sho-chan. You’re my best friend you can come to crush here anytime you want!” Aiba said cheerfully but then his face dropped a bit and looked at his friend more seriously. “I called in sick for both of us otherwise both of us would be fired already by this time…And like this we have all the day… Would you mind explaining what happened?” he asked looking at Sho who sat there lowering his head. “It’s okay if you don’t want to but I can’t help you unless you tell me what it is…” the taller guy said uncharacteristically serious.
Sho sighed then looked at his friend.
“I’m pregnant. Yesterday I fainted while I was going home and someone took me to the hospital. And the doctor said I’m pregnant… I know it sounds weird but actually it happened with other men already that they got pregnant and it seems to be an evolutional step…” Sho tried to explain.
“I know” Aiba nodded his head.
“You do?” Sho looked at him surprised and couldn’t decide that Aiba was just joking or not.
“Yeah, I read about male pregnancy in one of the medical magazines we get in the store. It sounded funny but interesting so I check it out on the internet and other magazines. It’s kinda cool if you ask me” he added and grinned at his friend encouraging. “I guess Hiro-kun didn’t take it too good…”
“He didn’t. He told me to get rid off the baby… That I’m freak for having it… But I don’t want to kill it. It has the right to live too, right?” Sho looked at Aiba hopefully that he will agree with him and a soft smile appeared on his lips when his friend indeed nodded. “Then Hiro-kun said he breaks up with me if I want to keep the baby and kicked me out…” he finished the story. “Aiba-chan! You… you think I do the right thing?... Keeping the baby?... It won’t have a proper family and raising a child by my salary at the book store is kind of impossible… I…” Sho said twiddling the sheets in his hand.
“Don’t worry, Sho-chan. It will be fine. We’ll find out something. For starting you can stay here as long as you want!” Aiba offered grinning at Sho widely to cheer him up.
Sho smiled back at him slowly…
***More than a month passed till Sho managed to find and save up the money for a small apartment to himself and could move out from Aiba’s place. His friend tried to convince him staying at his place but Sho was determined not to. One of his reasons for this was that he didn’t want to be a burden to Aiba anymore - though his friend denied that he’d be one - and wanted to stand on his own feet feeling otherwise he wouldn’t be capable to raise the baby that was growing in his tummy. He needed to do it cause he didn’t want to expect his friend’s help with the baby forever. Also it seemed that something is starting between Aiba and his crush - oh, sorry, his beloved who was called Ohno by the way - and he didn’t want to be in the way if… well, if things starts going well between them…
“Excuse me!”
Sho quickly turned around and looked down at the stylishly dressed man who was standing next to the ladder where Sho stood to put books on the higher shelves.
“Hai!” Sho cautiously got down from the ladder. “What can I help you, sir?” he asked politely putting on a smile.
“I’m looking forward a guy named… So…Souba… Masa…nori…?” the man read from the envelope in his hand. (AN: Souba Masanori is another reading of Aiba’s name with kanjis)
Sho cocked his head to the side then cautiously peaked at paper from where the other read the name.
“Aiba Masaki?” Sho corrected him questioning.
“Oh, yeah, that’s it!” the man grinned relieved. “Is he here?”
“Actually… no. He’s on lunch break right now…” Sho said honestly. “Can I ask you why are you looking for him?” Sho didn’t want to butt in other people’s business but it was understandable if he wants to know what a stranger - a hot one, by the way, even if he can’t read kanji properly… - wants from his friend, right?
“My friend asked me to hand him this in his place…” the man answered. “You know when will he come back?”
“In an hour, maybe…” Sho said.
“That’s bad… I don’t have the time to wait that much…” the stranger murmured under his breath. “Hey, can you do me a favor and give this to him when he comes back?” he asked Sho suddenly and handed him the envelope.
“Uh... Yeah, sure…” Sho agreed a bit uncomfortably but accept the envelope.
“You saved my life!” the man said with a wide smile and Sho felt - or might just imagined - his heart skipped a beat at the sight. “Ja, goodbye!” the man waved then quickly left the shop…
“A guy was here and left it for you” Sho said handing Aiba the envelope when he came back from his lunch.
“Really?” Aiba asked getting all excited at the news. “What is it?” he asked looking at Sho waiting for an answer.
“How should I know? It was for you therefore I didn’t peek in it…” Sho said shrugging his shoulder but he couldn’t deny that he was curious that what it could be.
“Really?... I’m sure I’d check it out immediately if I were you…” Aiba said on a blank tone as he opened the letter.
“Why am I not surprised?” Sho breathed out on an amused tone.
“Ah!” Aiba cried out suddenly next to him and his eyes sparkled happily.
“What is it?” Sho asked and now he tried to peek into the paper in Aiba’s hand.
“You remember I told you Oh-chan’s artist, right? He has a gallery opening on Friday and he invited me!”
Sho was sure that his friend was beaming and that wasn’t just his imagination. He chuckled silently.
“That’s good. You two finally have a date, ne?” he asked teasingly and grinned at his friend.
“You’re coming with me!” Aiba announced suddenly.
“What? I don’t go with you on your date, Aiba-chan!” Sho protested. “Aren’t you grown up enough to don’t need a baby-sitter? That would be weird if I go…”
“You can’t make me go alone! It’s scary to go alone. It’s a gallery opening! And he’ll be busy with the critics and media and stuff… And it says: you and your partner… You have to come with me! What if someone asks me something and I need to answer something smart?” Aiba insisted.
“Even if I wanted to, I can’t. On Friday I have the evening shift in the conbini, sorry, Aiba-chan…” Sho said but he wasn’t that sorry. He really didn’t want to be the third-wheel on Aiba’s date.
“Please, Sho-chan! Your shift starts at 10, it’s starting at 8. Please, at least an hour at the beginning…” Aiba pleaded to him looking at Sho with his best kicked puppy eyes.
Sho tried to look away. He really tried but couldn’t. Aiba’s puppy eyes was his most unfair weapon cause it was impossible to resist. Sho sighed defeated.
“Okay, okay, I go. But just an hour! I can’t allow to be fired from my job there. You know I need the money…” Sho said seriously.
“I know, I know. One hour is okay” Aiba beamed at him. “Thank you, Sho-chan! You’re the bestest best friend!” Aiba cheered happily.
“There’s no such word as bestest…” Sho mumbled under his breath but of course Aiba wasn’t paying attention to him at all…
***Sho stared at the suit that was hanging on the door of his wardrobe. He really didn’t feel like wearing that but the invitation card said the gallery opening has dress code. Sho bit his lips to keep him from crying. The last time he wore it was three months ago on a company party where he attended with Hiro-kun. And not just that time. All the time he had to wear suit was connected with Hiro. In the end he took a deep breath and sighed.
“It can’t be help, right?” he muttered to himself and got up to get dressed.
He couldn’t do it with Aiba to attend that party in casual cloths and also he couldn’t afford to buy a new one just because he was too emotional to wear the one he had.
“It will be just an hour and that’s all…” Sho repeated reassuring nth time for the day as he checked his appearance in the mirror last time and left the apartment.
“Sho-chan, hurry! We’ll be late if you keep trudging like that!” Aiba complained running up the stairs from the train station. It was hard enough to keep up with Aiba on normal days but today he was even worse than usually. Bouncing and fidgeting and running up and down anxiously and everything - the train or Sho… - was too slow to his liking.
“It wasn’t me who insisted to come along” Sho protested when he finally caught up with Aiba. “You should be a little more considerate with my… condition, would you? After all it’s me who’s doing a favor to you…”
“Gomen, Sho-chan” Aiba looked at his friend with puppy eyes. “It’s just… I really don’t want to be late… What will Oh-chan think?...”
“We won’t be late and even if we will I don’t think Ohno-san would mind it that much… Or notice at all…” Sho said trying to calm down his friend but of course it worth nothing.
“How do I look?” Aiba asked Sho when they finally arrived to the gallery.
Sho smiled at his friend and arranged his tie a bit.
“You look great, don’t worry…” he said then patting his back as they entered.
“He’s there! He looks so cool…” Aiba squealed on a whispered tone making Sho giggle as he followed Aiba’s glance.
Sho had to admit that Ohno-san indeed looked good - though it was expected from him today - nothing like his spaced out, lost self as he was always when he came by the store. He was talking to someone and Sho need a few second till he recognized the man who came to give Aiba the invitation. Sho didn’t understand himself why his heart started to beat faster at this.
“Come on, Sho-chan! Let’s congratulate him!” Aiba said enthusiastic and grabbed his friend’s hand to head over where his crush was.
“Oi, oi, stop!” Sho protested and tried to free himself earning as less attention as he could. “You don’t need me for that…” he said knowing that Aiba probably won’t leave after saying his ‘Congratulations!’ His friend blinked at him confused. “Go and overawe him!” Sho added grinning and pushed him lightly toward the artist.
Aiba grinned back at him then turned to hunt down his man. Sho watched him for afar and tried to convince him that he didn’t do it because of Ohno’s friend. When he saw that Aiba reached them safely and started talking with them Sho looked around a bit uncomfortably. He really didn’t want to be here alone cause he had no idea what he should do but he didn’t even want to be stuck to Aiba cause that would be even more embarrassing. He sighed softly and decided he should at least take a look around since he was here already. Not that he’ll have a chance again anytime soon - or ever - to see an exhibition like this closely…
Sho looked at his watch. He had to should leave now or he’ll be late from his job. But Aiba was still glued to Ohno’s side… Sho made a face then approached the small group where his friend was and tugging at the sleeve of his suit he tried to get his attention without getting everyone else’s in the group too. Though he should’ve known better that being unnoticed with Aiba was kind of impossible…
“Ah, Sho-chan!” Aiba said rather loudly looking at his friend.
Of course the people around them looked at Sho too at this. This included Ohno and his extremely good-looking friend too. Sho felt himself blushing but smiled shyly and bowed his head apologetically as he dragged Aiba away from them.
“What’s wrong, Sho-chan?” Aiba asked frowning.
“I have to go, that’s all. I just wanted to tell you…” Sho said glancing at his watch again. “Yabai… I’ll be late...” he muttered under his breath.
“You go already? But I wanted to introduce you to Oh-chan and Matsumoto-kun…” Aiba said gesturing toward the group.
“Some other time, ne… I really have to go now! Bye-bye, Aiba-chan! And… don’t do anything stupid, okay?” Sho said smiling a bit them waving goodbye to his friend he quickly left failing to notice the sharp dark eyes which where following his movements curiously.
“Is your friend okay, Aiba-san?”
“Sho-chan? Oh, yeah, he is just… had to go now though…” Aiba said smiling at the tall man.
“That’s a shame; I wanted to get to know him…” Ohno said pouting his lips childishly.
Aiba giggled a little and promised him to introduce them to each other next time…
