Chapter 6: Closing Love

“His brother… collapsed during PE class…”
“What?” Sho cried out, his panicked eyes searching Nino’s face for any signs of joking. But there wasn’t any. And it made him panic more. “What happened? Nino!” he demanded an answer, dropping the piece of chalk that he was still holding in his hand.
“It’s… He…” Nino stuttered unsure, which was really unusual of him.
“Sensei! Excuse us for a minute!” Ohno said shooting up from his seat.
The chubby faced student stomped to Sho and grabbing his arm, he dragged him out of the classroom, pushing his boyfriend in front of them as well.
“Satoshi! Let go off me!” Sho tried to shrug of his friend’s hand but the older boy didn’t loosen his strong grip. “And you, Nino, care to tell finally what the fuck happened? Masaki was just fine this morning!...” Sho was out of his mind with worry and he didn’t even care anymore to pay attention to his language.
“At first he was fine but he started having some breathing difficulties while we played soccer and then he just passed out suddenly…” Nino told. “Sensei called the ambulance and he was taken to hospital…”
With his free hand, Ohno took his boyfriend’s, squeezing it gently to calm down the younger student.
“How could that happen? He’s not sick or anything!”
“We don’t know that, Sho, that’s why you’re going to the hospital too” Ohno said all calm and collected, despite that he was worried about Masaki just as well.
Sho gave in without protesting and let Ohno to hail a taxi outside the school and push him on the backseat of it.
“I’ll bring over your staff later tonight…” the older student added before pushed the car’s door closed…

Sho ran straight to the counter once he was out of the taxi.
“Where’s Sakurai Masaki?” he demanded the answer from the nurse at the reception.
“And you are?” the woman asked raising an eyebrow.
“I’m his brother! I was told he was brought in for collapsing” Sho explained impatiently. “Now tell me finally, where. Is. He?” Sho asked again raising his voice, not caring he brought attention with this.
The nurse slowly turned her eyes from the distressed boy to the computer screen.
“He’s under surgery at the moment. You can wait there” she answered finally.
Sho didn’t waste one more second and rushed away.
“Where is my son, Ayako? How is that he ends up in hospital when he’s with you?”
Sho frowned and slacked up his rushing steps when he spotted Masaki’s mother with another man a few meters don on the corridor.
“I… couldn’t speak with the doctor yet. He’s under surgery. But you have nothing to do with him now!” the woman said on a strong yet wavering voice; obviously her mind was mostly occupied with her son’s state.
“I’m not leaving this just like it!” the man said on threatening tone but stomped away.
Sho looked after him for a second as the man passed next to him before grabbed himself and hurried to Ayako-san.
“Who was that man?” he asked her.
“Sho-kun!” she gasped surprised. “He’s Masaki’s father… The hospital contacted him as well when the ambulance brought my son in. I called your father too but he is at a meeting now so I didn’t want to bother him…” the woman said. “But what are you doing here, Sho-kun? You should be at school…”
Sho couldn’t keep in a small, soft smile. Now he knew from where Masaki got his habit of nervous babbling.
“I was told at school that he collapsed so I came” he said simply then hugged the woman in his arms tightly. “It’s okay, mom, don’t worry! He’s strong, he’ll make it…” he murmured reassuring in his hair…

The next day Sho couldn’t wait his classes to be over but then he still had soccer practice after that. Though he’d rather ditched it to be able to go to the hospital as soon as possible, they had matches coming up so he had to stay. But he never lived up to his responsibilities with less enthusiasm than he did it now.
But once these things were over - he didn’t pay much attention to any of it, which would’ve been highly disapproved by his father - he rushed to the hospital. To Masaki…
On the way he could feel the anxious knot in his guts again just like the day before…

After hours of anxious waiting - he refused to go home, no matter how much Ayako-san tried to convince him to do so - the surgery was over. The doctor told that Masaki’s lung collapsed due to pneumothorax but everything was alright now. Yet they’ll keep him in hospital for a few days of monitoring…
After this they went home though Ayako-san just packed up a few necessary things and clothing for Masaki before left to the hospital again to stay with her son, leaving Sho alone at home…
“Where’s Ayako-san and Masaki-kun?” his father asked frowning when he arrived home later that night.
Sho stared at him, anger obvious in his eyes for the man not knowing what happened.
“Masaki’s hospitalized cause he collapsed today. He had a surgery!” Sho said. “He has to stay there. Ayako-san took his stuff for him…”
“I’m going to the hospital and bring her home to rest” Shuntaro-san said and though the hints of worry were audible in his voice, he was still too calm and indifferent for Sho’s taste.
“I’m going too!” the boy said immediately.
“No! You stay here, Sho” his father deadpanned.
“But…!”
“No buts! You have school tomorrow, young man. Go, study!” the man said strictly before left…

Sho took a deep breath, willing away the infuriating memories before opened the door of Masaki’s hospital room.
The younger boy looked paler than usual; he was laid in the bed, sleeping soundly despite machines beeping around him. Sho pulled a chair next to his bed and sat down, watching that peaceful yet vulnerable face…
“Aniki…?”
Sho had to realize he gazed off as the weak, raspy voice brought him back to the present. He looked at Masaki’s fluttering lashes, sleep-filled eyes and smiled softly at the sight.
“What… ya’re doing… here?” the younger boy mumbled, obviously still half asleep.
“You made us worry yesterday. I wanted to check on you…” Sho answered doing his best to sound cool, not showing he was still sick with worry just a few minutes ago.
“Gomen…” he slurred the word guiltily.
“Is okay” Sho said and reached out a hand, patting Masaki’s in a reassuring way. “Now you should just rest to get better soon…” he added gently.
“’kay…” Masaki gave in easily, closing back his eyes, slipping back to dreamland quickly with a soft smile playing on his lips. “I love you, aniki…”
Sho’s eyes widened and he pulled his hand back in an instant from Masaki’s as if the touch was burning. Without wasting as much as a heartbeat, he stormed out the hospital…

Sho was frustrated. He couldn’t and didn’t even want to cover it up. For the first time in his life, he couldn’t care about his image.
‘I love you, aniki…’
It thumped in his head for days and he couldn’t sort out his feelings that he felt over the younger boy’s confession.
“Saying ‘I love you’ to your family is no big deal!”
Sho tried to convince himself for the nth time during the past three days. Masaki was released from the hospital the day before but Sho avoided him ever since his visit that day. He felt too confused and worked up to face the boy.
‘He’s a really emotional person. He says ‘love you’ to practically anyone! I heard him saying this to his mother, my father, even Nino for his help studying! I’d bet he told Satoshi and that Jun-kid as well…’ Sho thought, desperately trying to reason out the whole situation.
“It’s completely understandable for brothers to say ‘love you’ to each other. And that’s what we should be; brothers!” Sho said aloud as if it’d make his mind process the words better. “Then why don’t you just get over with it, Sakurai?”
“What should you get over with, Sho?” Ohno asked walking to his friend who was lying on the rooftop.
“Satoshi! What are you doing here?” Sho asked sitting up.
“I was looking for you” his friend said simply and sat down next to him. “So, you want to talk about it?”
Sho sighed resigned.
“I’m going mad, probably…” he said bitterly. “I… might like someone…”
“Good for you!” Ohno said grinning. “Who’s the lucky girl?” he asked with a provocative smile.
“That’s the problem! It’s not a girl... But I’m not gay!” Sho protested frustrated.
“No, of course you’re not” Ohno replied calmly, a little pitying. “You’re only Masaki-sexual…” he added smirking.
“What?” Sho squeaked - which he’d totally deny later. “How did you…?” he asked gaping at his friend, his face turning beet red in a second.
“I just know. No offense, but you were pretty obvious for quite a while now… Not that anyone would mind it. Except a few of your more desperate fans maybe…” Ohno mused aloud, fighting hard to keep his grinning under control.
“Shut up! I don’t have fans…” Sho grumbled, trying to protect his remaining dignity.
Ohno just burst out laughing shamelessly at that weak retort, fueling Sho’s anger - though it was directed mostly against himself.
“I’m going home…” he announced mumbling totally mortified and tried to walk away in the least obviously fleeing manner…
“Okay! Have a safe trip! It was nice talking to you, Sho-kun! Say hi to Ma-chan for me!” Ohno chirped and waved after his friend. “I hope you grow some balls on the way home to face your feelings and Ma-chan finally…” he mumbled under his breath once Sho was out of ear-shot…

Once at home, Sho kicked his shoes off and rushed to his room. He dropped a hurried ‘Tadaima!’ as he passed the kitchen from where he heard Masaki and his mother just started preparing dinner.
Hearing Sho’s voice, the younger boy immediately jumped out to the hallway.
“Okaeri!” he chirped cheerfully but his smile turned into a disappointed pout when all he could see was Sho’s retreating back. He didn’t stop or at least looked back. Just like at the beginning…
An hour or so later there was a soft knock on Sho’s bedroom door.
“Aniki?”
The calling caused Sho’s shoulders to stiffen in frustration but he didn’t reply to the younger boy - which didn’t actually stop him from opening the door.
“Kaa-chan says dinner is ready” Masaki said entering his brother’s room. “Aniki?” he called again when the older boy didn’t budge.
“Stop it!” Sho practically snarled as he stood up finally.
“What, aniki?”
“That! Stop calling me that! I am not and neither wants to be your brother!” he said walking to the younger boy, backing him into the wall behind him. “I don’t want to be just your brother!” he repeated seeing the confused, bit hurt expression in Masaki’s soft brown eyes.
Then just to emphasize his point, he put his hands on the younger’s face, tilting his head just the tiniest bit and pressed his plump lips over Masaki’s in a strong, passionate and just a tad bit forceful kiss…

A/N: yay! Sakuraiba kissing finally!!! are you happy? I'm sure you are XD anyway, happy valentine day! love you all! *hugs*
