“Ohayou gozaimasu!”
Kazama Masamune walked in the office of the small photo studio where he worked. ‘But not too much longer…’ the thought occurred to him immediately, faltering his wide smile for a second.
“Ohayou! Kazama, come here, let me introduce someone…” his boss, Hayashi-san, motioned him to come closer.
“Hai?” Masamune walked to his boss a bit unsurely.
“Sato-san, can you come here for a second?...” his boss said on a louder voice. A faint ‘Hai!’ came from the gallery part of the office and soon hurried footsteps lumbered down the steel steps as a young man rushed down. “This is Sato-kun, who’ll be working with us. Would you please teach him your duties?” Hayashi instructed him before walked behind his desk.
“Sure. I’m Kazama Masamune. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!” Masamune said with his usual wide smile on his face as he bowed to the handsome young man who’ll be his successor in work.
“Y-yoroshiku onegaishimasu…” Sato returned the words uncertainly but with a polite smile on his face.
“Ah! This is the work manual, just in case…” Masamune took the folder from his desk and handed to the newcomer.
With a small bow of his head, Sato took the folder from him and turned to the boss immediately.
“Thank you… Ano, Hayashi-san, can I have a few question…”
The next minute the other two photographers, Kimura and Nakazono arrived at the office and both of them immediately launched themselves on the newcomer, introducing themselves and asking questions about Sato himself as well. Masamune watched them interacting with a slightly sad feeling flooding his heart but he did his best to fight it back. ‘You chose this… It’s for the best. This is for Koharu-chan!...’ he reminded himself to marshal his feelings, then dropped his bag and coat to sit down at his table and start his work…

“Ano… Kazama-san! Are you free at the moment?”
Masamune looked up from his computer screen and smiled at Sato who stood at the door.
“Sure! What can I help you?” he asked standing up from his seat.
“I thought… can you show me around now? If that’s not too much trouble to you…” the young man said, looking a little awkward.
“I’d gladly do that!” Nakazono offered, shooting seducing glances at their future co-worker.
“That’s okay. Thank you but I’m free at the moment anyway!” Masamune said with a bright smile when he saw Sato’s passive - or rather scared - face at his colleague’s offer then he stepped to the young man. “Let’s go!”
Masamune escorted him down the corridors, showing where the storage rooms were; where they kept the tools and everything else.
“I heard you turned down Kenmochi sensei’s offer and are going to Shizuoka instead” Sato commented suddenly out of the blue. “Not that I’m complaining. I wouldn’t be able to work here otherwise. Though I have to admit I’m a little disappointed…”
Masamune looked at Sato surprised. Partly ‘cause the other photographer didn’t seem to be the chatty type so far, yet now he spoke three times more than he did since they first met. And partly because he had no idea how to interpret that last comment so he decided to ignore it.
“That’s true. My daughter wants to attend the same school her mother did so we’re moving there” he said simply but his face lit up with a bright smile at the mention of Koharu.
“I didn’t know you had a daughter…” Sato said surprised.
“Her name is Koharu. She’s the sweetest girl ever!” Masamune said smiling, fatherly proud shining in his soft brown eyes. “Oh, you can find the lighting equipment here…” he said turning their conversation back to their main topic…

A few days later…
“Koharu-chan! Come here! Let’s dry your hair! You don’t want to catch cold, do you?” Masamune called his daughter who played in the bedroom with her stuffed animals.
“Hai!” the little girl chirped skipping to her father and sat on the small chair in front of the couch while Masamune sat behind her and started to dry her damp, dark locks. During the whole process the girl chirped happily about her day and the upcoming farewell party they wanted to throw before moving to Shizuoka.
“I made invitation cards and I’ll give them out tomorrow!” she said cheerfully, loud enough to be heard over the hairdryer’s noise.
“Great! Will you show them to me?” Masamune asked when he was finished with drying her hair.
“Hai!” she chirped and ran to the bedroom immediately.
Then the doorbell rang.
“Hey, don’t run in the house!” Masamune called after her smiling before went to open the door. “Hai? Sato-san!” he gasped surprised seeing his - almost - co-worker at the door.
“Konbanwa, Kazama-san! I’m really sorry for disturbing you at such a late hour but…” the young man said smiling apologetically and scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
“Masamune-kun?”
Both men looked at her at the high-pitched, unsure voice that called for her father. The girl stood behind her father with the said cards in hand which she wanted to show her father but now she cocked her head to the side and looked at Sato curiously instead. The young photographer smiled at her in a friendly manner.
“Konbanwa! You must be Koharu-chan! Nice to meet you! I’m Sato! I’m… working with your father” he said gently.
“Konbanwa! Kazama Koharu desu!” the little girl chirped and skipped closer to her father and the other man. “Are you a photographer like Masamune-kun?” she asked eyeing Sato curiously.
“Yeah, but I’m not near as good as your father” Sato said and took a quick glance at Masamune who just stood there silently, with a little pink blush coloring his face.
“Ano… if you don’t mind, Sato-san, Koharu-chan has to go to bed now. Make yourself at home. We can talk after…” Masamune said quickly, then ushered Koharu to the bedroom…
“Shitsureishimasu…” Sato mumbled as he toed off his shoes, then walked to the couch to sit down. For the next twenty minutes he listened as Masamune and Koharu were chatting a little before the man read a bedtime-story to his daughter to lull her into sleep…
“So, what can I do for you, Sato-san?” Masamune asked while he kneeled down at the other side of the small coffee table in front of the other man. “Ah sorry, I had to make you wait. We don’t usually have visitors after bedtime…” he added smiling apologetically.
“No, it’s okay. I should be the one apologizing for intruding at such an hour. I should’ve thought before coming since you have a child… I’m really sorry. Maybe I should be going…” Sato said bowing his head.
“No, it’s okay. So, tell me what brought you here? You’re here now anyway…” Masamune said smiling reassuring.
“I… had some difficulties with the company papers… I thought you can help me with them… But probably I really should not bother you at such a time. I’ll drop by at the company tomorrow instead…” he said getting up, tugging his vest with antsy motions.
“No, no! No need for that! Sit down, please… and tell me what I should explain to you…” he said with another bright smile lighting up his face and moved to the couch to stand next to Sato.
The other photographer seemed to calm down finally at this. They sat down at the couch and Sato pulled out some papers from his vest’s inside pocket…

“Sato-san! Will you come to our party too?”
Both men’s head shot up and turned to look toward the chirping voice.
“Koharu-chan! Why are you not in bed? You should be sleeping…!” Masamune said and walked to his daughter.
“I was but then I woke up…” Koharu said pouting.
“Did you have a bad dream? Or did we wake you up?” Masamune asked; worry obvious in his voice.
“No, just woke up” she said shaking her head.
“Okay, then let’s go back to bed and sleep. You’ll be sleepy tomorrow and Tomoya-sensei will scold me again for not taking care of you properly… Now off to bed, little lady!” he said with a beaming smile.
Koharu nodded but before she moved, she looked at the other photographer again.
“So? Will you come too, Sato-san? You’re Masamune-kun’s friend, aren’t you?” she asked on that cute, innocent tone that only little children own.
Sato seemed to be unsure and looked at Masamune for help.
“If you’re free on Friday night… We’ll have a little party before moving to Shizuoka. A few of our friends coming only so if you want…” he repeated his daughter’s invitation with a little more detail. “We’d be glad to welcome you on the party as well…” he added.
“Well, if I would not be a bother… I’d gladly come…” he said with wide smile.
Masamune couldn’t help it but he felt strangely happy knowing Sato will come too. ‘But why?’ he asked himself confused but before he slipped too deeply in his thoughts present demanded his attention back.
“Yatta!” Koharu cheered happily, jumping up and down with her hands above her head.
“Now, that Sato-san agreed, go to bed finally!” her father said on his best, strict daddy-voice.
“Ha~i!” Koharu gave in smiling but a yawn cut her smile and she climbed back to bed and was asleep the moment her head hit the pillow…
“I should go too. Thank you for your help, Kazama-san. Despite the time of my rude visit… I apologize!” said Sato getting up and headed to the door.
“No problem. I won’t be here too much longer but… if I can help you with anything else, don’t hesitate to ask me” Masamune said smiling.
“Thank you” Sato said again, his awkwardness returned now that Koharu’s easing presence wasn’t there anymore. “Good night, Kazama-san!”

In the end the farewell party didn’t go as smoothly as they planed before. The secret that Koharu kept in - that she wished her father to keep his photographing job - burst out from her with big tears that seemed to be unstoppable. Sato watched the little girl hiding under her bed sheets and felt pity for her. He kind of understood her feelings. Despite he got his job thanks to Masamune quitting, deep down in his heart, he could not approve the young father’s decision. Someone who had such a talent, whose pictures hold such strength, emotions… He just couldn’t support such a decision…
While the young photographer escorted their guests out, Sato stayed back to watch over the little girl. Though it seemed she cried herself into sleep he thought that was the right thing to do after all.
“Sumimasen, Sato-san! It wasn’t quite what we planned beforehand…” Masamune apologized coming back and bowed to the other man.
“No, it’s…” Sato shook his head, not wanting to make the things more awkward than it was already. “But you know… you should consider what your daughter wants…” he added silently and walked closer to him.
The young father nodded his head slowly. Probably he should. But he really believed it was the right choice to make!...
“I… I’d really love to see more of your gorgeous pictures…” he admitted raising his eyes to Masamune’s face who blushed in bright pink color. “I applied to FiveStar knowing you worked there. I was quite disappointed knowing you’ll leave and even stop taking photos… Cause I really… admire you… and your work…” he finished whispered and half unconscious he leant closer to the other man.
Masamune gasped seeing Sato so close and realized what was actually going on when he felt his hot breath fanning his lips.
“Don’t!...” he breathed out barely audible and inched a little away from the other photographer. “I… don’t think… it would be a good idea… Whatever we decide… I’ll go away…” he whispered averting his eyes from him. He was confused but this time it had nothing to do with his job or Koharu or moving. No, he was almost scared that for the first time since Youko-san left him, he wanted to be kissed; wanted to kiss someone…
Sato, as if he was waking from a dream, took a step back too, putting appropriate distance between them.
“Yeah, you’re right. I’m sorry…” he said quickly clearing his throat. “I’ll be going now… Good night,… Masamune-kun…”

3 years later
It felt almost weird to be back in Japan after such a long time. Not that he didn’t want to come home… it was just a strange feeling to be home again. He wanted to see his daughter, he really missed her and finally they’ll be able to start their life together anew. Also… - he blushed a little at the thought - he was looking forward seeing someone else too… During these three years he stayed in contact with Sato. They’d never been able to meet personally, they both were too busy to be able to do that, Masamune still felt himself being drawn closer to the other man…
As he dragged his suitcase down the campus road he felt excitement swelling in his chest with every hurried step he took. ‘Just a few more minutes…’ he repeated to himself for the nth time ‘till he finally spotted his destination. Despite being in a hurry just mere minutes ago, he stopped abruptly when he spotted them. The two people he was longing to see the most during the past years. And now they were just a few steps away, standing together, admiring the great sakura tree they stood under…
“Tadaima!” he called finally and at his voice they turned around immediately, the same bright smile decorating their faces that was seen on his own.
“Masamune-kun!” Koharu cheered happily and ran flying into her father’s open arms.
Sato walked to them slower, giving a little time to father and daughter to be reunited finally. Masamune slowly put his girl down - she immediately took his hand and leant into his side, burying her face into her dad’s coat, cherishing the thought that he was back finally - and looked at Sato with a beaming smile though faintly blushing as he stepped up to him with a soft smile on his face and leaning in, brushed his lips chastely to his cheeks.
“Welcome home…!”
