So, what is your definition of virgin? I always thought it was someone who had never commited a sexual act, so I always thought if you had oral sex, you weren't a virgin, if you masturbated, you weren't a virgin, etc etc etc. I don't think the world uses this definition anymore, so if I'm having a conversation with you, and we're talking about ( Read more... )

I think it varies depending on your personal definition of what constitutes "sexual intercourse." There are many reasons that a women's hymen might not be intact. ie: playing certain sports and of course medical issues.

I look at it this way, there are two types of virginity. Virgin and technical Virgin, a virgin is someone who has never had sexual contact with another person; a technical virgin is someone who has had some sexual contact with another person but has never had full intercourse. Under this definition someone could be a complete slut and technically still be a virgin.

I see it as any time anyone has voluntarily committed a sexual act with another person as an expression of love. That being said, I'm not sure how "meaningless sex" (defined as voluntary sexual acts for the sole, or primary purpose of getting off) fits in to my definition, because I have a hard time fathoming why people do that.

Let me know if you'd like my definition of "sexual act."

I figure that if you have sex with someone else you are no longer a virgin. It all depends on what you consider sex. Two chicks sleeping together is completely different than two guys and that is different from a girl and a guy... but they all had sex. It is one of those things that no one will give you quite the same answer.

the exchange of bodily fluids from one persons genitals directly into the person of another(be it vaginal, oral, or anal) constitutes the loss of virginity in my eyes. though for all practical reasons i still call people who have only had oral sex virgins(but they're not).

But if the guy uses a condom, there's no exchange of bodily fluids. Theoretically.

I think that a person is no longer a virgin when they have been stimulated sexually by another person.

And yes, (gasp!), I used the plural pronoun "they" to refer to a single person. It's actually a new thing in writing; "they" isn't gender specific, and it sounds better than using the pronoun "it."

In my opinion, it's especially important to avoid using gender specific pronouns when discussing sex.

you know, you're right about the condom thing. i actually meant to make a side note about how protected sex is still sex from a moral point of view and from a biological high school health class point of view. i just didn't have time to finish my comment.
