Lining up ducks

Mar 13, 2006 18:30

It's time to get my ducks in a row. I'm moving in two weeks, all the way from Tennessee to Pennsylvania. I've never even visited Pennsylvania even though my brother's family has lived there ten years. Now I'm moving to a town just outside of Pittsburgh. It's going to be a big change ( Read more... )

Pennsylvania is a lovely state. It will be colder than you are used to, but it's gorgeous. Enjoy your time there. =)

Oh, I'm from the other end of PA. I lived there my entire life, until I moved here in 1998. I'm from an hour and a half north of Philly.

Jasper will enjoy the cold, but not me. Mom says it gets nice and warm during the summer, at least, and it will be fun to have a winter where it actually snows--and the snow stays for more than a day. At least, it will be fun at first. I went out to my favorite consignment shop Sat. to see if they had any nice winter coats (I don't have one--I hate wearing coats), but they had just put out all their spring stuff. So I bought two spring outfits, and now I'm wondering if I should just wait and buy a coat when I get to PA. Either way, I'm getting really excited.

how will you go...?
I was thinking about it, ambridge
is close on the map relatively but
your mother said it took 10 hours
do you go through west virginia,
as a straight line would go, or do
you swing through ohio or virginia?

Well, my brother and sister-in-law suggest I go up I-75 and then through W.Va, but I may go through Bristol, TN/VA and go up through there. I went to Berea College in KY so I'm more than a little familiar with I-75 but I've only been out towards Bristol a few times in my life. I need to sit down and really look at the map. For one thing, I've got to call and reserve a hotel room and that means I need to know which way I'm going.

As tharain, who appears to have grown up somewhere around where I live now, says, it is a lovely state. It would be fabulous if it just didn't snow.

Lots of cool folks seem to be from around your area. Everyone I talk to has said PA's gorgeous. I can't wait to see it! Hopefully without snow, at least at first.

tharain went to Penn State.

Never been to the 'Burgh, Kate, but I can vouch for what parts of PA I've been in as being very nice. And closer to ME.

Be sure to send out your mailing address at some point, will you?

Ohmagooses, you remind me that I need to actually write down the address and memorize it! Wow, and I'll have to memorize another phone number. Too much of my brain is taken up with old phone numbers that I no longer have. I think they're in the same part of my brain that keeps the citation codes for speeding and improper lane changes. I hope I don't fill up that brain section before I finish this job.

Congratulations on your new upcoming life!! I can really relate, having made a couple of huge and leap-of-faith type moves in my life so far...also with cars full of animals, and in one case with WAY more cats than you (but that's another story). So far, each big move has led to really wonderful things. I hope the same will be true for you, and I'll bet it will.

There's a lady where I work who moved with her husband and four kids from California to here in East TN last year. They also had a bunch of cats and dogs, bunnies, ferrets, and pet rats, AND they did it in two pickups. Compared to that, I figure my trip will be a breeze. I like the way you put it, a leap-of-faith move. I tend to be a cautious person, so it's high time I made a leap-of-faith move. It's exhilerating (and a little frightening).
