i'm getting a tattoo today.
it's been 10 years since i got a tattoo.
when i was 18, my friend kendra (i'm not sure that's actually her name; that's how close we ended up remaining; we spent most of our time stealing lawn ornaments and watching soft core porn; then she started working at a canning factory and ditched me for her new creamed corn buddies) called me and said that her tattoo artist would be willing to give me a tattoo on my toe (where i'd decided i wanted one when i was 12), but i'd have to do it at his house. so we drove to POUND, WISCONSIN (of Slimfast fame) and i sat in the a sparkly lounge chair and had a staring contest with the largest kitty i've ever seen. this cat wasn't corpulent. he was just big - big like paul bunyan or big louie or anyone else genetically freak enough to earn that prefix. the kitty's name was horse! oh, he was wonderful. gray with a white spot across his nose. extremely soft feet, even for a kitty.
the tattoo took less than 10 minutes* and it didn't hurt at all. so i got all jumpy and asked him to give me another one on my other foot (i was so impulsive back then! this was before the jaded-ness tumor started growing in my brain). i've spent the last 9 years and 11 months trying to figure out what to cover the one on my foot with**.
*it's the narcotics anonymous service symbol, a diamond inside of a circle. i've since decided that i really prefer aa - both the fellowship and their service symbol. figures.
**it was supposed to be a sun, an eagle, and a moon - this was during my early-recovery-nature-spirituality days. so, yeah, i probably wouldn't like it now anyway. but he went through too many layers of skin, so it got all fuzzy and weird and it ended up looking more like a flower, a seagull, and a blue banana. ugh.
this one will turn out so much better.
