Things I Like
Today, I'm going to write about something I like. Something I like very, very much.
Two words: DUCK. DYNASTY.
Take a moment to take it all in.
Back story: I was born and raised in Ohio. Small town, but hardly the backwoods haven that these people inhabit. My mother, however, grew up in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains along the Ohio River. Her parents didn't have indoor plumbing until they were married in 1958. They are amazing, awesome people with the most interesting life stories ever. My mother killed snakes with shovels until she moved uptown when she was 20. She used to beat up boys twice her size for picking on her brother. She hunted, hauled hay, and drove a tractor. My mom is fucking awesome.
And this show is fucking awesome.
Moving on...
This is Phil.
Yes, he said that. And yes, it was amazeballs. Phil is my hero for so many reasons.
1. The beard. Obviously.
2. He can skin and gut pretty much anything. Perfectly.
3. He converted a trailer into a duck blind.
4. He says this:
Which is what my grandpa calls me when I introduce my mom as "The Suburban Snake Slayer" to my friends.
This is Si, Phil's brother.

There are other people on the show, and they're all okay. But anybody who's anybody watches the show for these two. I watch, enthralled, as they duck hunt, destroy beaver dams, blow things up, create duck blinds out of trailers, and impart valuable life advice. Some of my favorites include:
"If you catch squirrels for your woman she will never cut you off in bed." - Phil
"These young couples. Say they'll survive on love. You won't. You'll starve. Find yourself a girl that can cook." -Phil
"Hey look here beavers, you better hide your wives, hide your husbands, and look here both of ya hide your kids because we are comin." - Si
"She may be an ugly woman but she if cooks squirrel and dumplins, that's the woman you go after" - Phil
"You need to be able to take a leak in your yard without someone saying, "hey what's he doing". -Phil
Important words to live by. Forever.
Seriously, I don't think I can quite put into words why I love this show so much. I just do, and I will continue to watch and tell the world of LJ all about it.
