I’m sitting alone on the bed.
Wishing for the millionth time today that Reita was here with me.
Unfortunately, we aren’t even in the same town.
I sigh, reaching for my cell as it rings.
It’s Rei.
“Hi,” I can’t keep the smile from my voice.
“Hi babe,” he sounds tired.
“The show went OK?”
I miss you, Rei.
“Oh yeah, everything was great.”
Except that you’re not here.
“So, no trouble with anything?”
I wish you were here.
“Nothing worth mentioning.”
God, I miss you, Hiro.
“When’s your next day off?”
When are you coming back?
“I’m not sure. What day is it?” he chuckles.
Not soon enough.
There’s silence on the line.
Neither of us knowing what else to say.
But not wanting to break the connection.
As tenuous as it is.
It’s all we have right now.
Cherishing every breath, every sound we can share with each other.
Knowing it won’t be long.
Both the conversation and our separation.
He sighs, “I should probably go.”
I’d rather not.
“Ok. Sleep tight.”
I love you.
“You too.”
