Uruha's POV
~~
I don't have much stuff to gather.
So it isn't long before I'm ready.
Dropping my small bags by the door.
I quickly make my way to the stable.
Where Aoi already has one of the horses out.
He's speaking softly to the animal as he sets the saddle on it's back.
I continue to watch him soothe it as I quietly make my way closer.
"That's a good girl," he says, giving it a final pat before turning to me.
"All set? Good. Can you take care of saddling yours?" he asks with a smile.
"Sure. But I'm going to use the one I rode before."
"That's fine. As long as you're on a horse."
I watch as he moves to another stall.
Again speaking to the horse in a soft voice.
I make my way to my horse, mimicking Aoi's behavior.
We work quietly.
The only sounds those we make to the animals as we get them ready for the journey.
It doesn't take long before they're all ready.
Aoi takes the reins of two, watching as I copy him again.
Flashing me another smile, he turns.
Leading the beasts outside.
We make our way to the house.
After Aoi's secured them, we head back inside.
Meeting up with Kai as he places a couple of bags by my one.
"Is that all you've got?" he asks, pointing.
"Yeah. I travel light."
"That's good," Aoi smiles. "Makes it easier to move on. Right?"
I nod, smiling back.
"Oh, good. You're all here," Miyavi says walking out of one of the rooms down the hall.
He walks purposely up to Aoi.
Holding out the ring.
"It's ready?" Kai asks.
"Yep. And it should let Uruha pass thru the gate. As long as you're wearing the ring and carrying the amulet."
"Should?" Aoi asks, taking the ring.
Turning it over and over.
Running his fingers along the metal.
Slipping it on, he adds, "But you're not sure?"
Miyavi rubs his forehead.
"Yes, I'm sure. There will be no problems. As long as you two stick fairly close."
"How far apart is safe? And what'll happen if we happen to get farther?"
"Ten, fifteen meters. Just to be safe. And the only thing that'll happen is that Uruha'll feel sick. The farther apart you get, the sicker he'll feel."
"Sick like how?" I ask, needing to know the worse.
"It'll start as a headache. That'll get worse. Then you'll get sick to your stomach. I suggest not letting it get any worse than that."
"Ok," Aoi nods.
Making sure he's got the amulet, he flashes me a smile.
"Let's load up the supplies and hit the road."
"We should probably walk the horses thru. Or maybe you two can take all of them. And then Uruha and I will follow," Aoi suggests after everything's secured.
I watch as Miyavi and Kai gather up the reins and start for the gate.
Aoi reaches over, taking one of my hands.
"It's gonna be all right," he says, giving it a squeeze.
"Yeah sure. You do realize that if I blow up, you might too?" I have to ask.
That makes Aoi smile.
"First off, you aren't going to blow up. I won't let you. Besides, Miyavi says he's sure."
"And you trust him?"
"What good would it do for him to lie? Besides, Kai'd get upset if something bad happened to me. And Miyavi wouldn't want that to happen."
"OK. Now I'm convinced. Let's go," I laugh.
Still holding onto Aoi's hand, I start for the gate.
Taking a deep breath, I glance his way.
Then we're both walking thru.
And the only thing that happens is a loud 'pop' as we reach the other side.
But it's still enough to make me jump.
I smile, biting at my lower lip as I look back at Aoi.
"See? Nothing bad happened."
"But what was that noise? Kai asks, handing the reins to his brother.
"The spell being broken," Miyavi supplies.
"Did you know it was going to do that?"
"I knew it was going to do something. I just didn't know if it'd be audible or visible," Miyavi answers with a shrug.
Which seems to satisfy all of us.
And then we're mounting our horses and turning towards the road.
Which hopefully will lead us to their friends.
The others start speculating what we may find when we get there.
I just hope it's something pleasant.
For all our sakes.
