Ruki's standing outside of school yet again.
Waiting for Uruha, Aoi, and Kai.
But unlike so many times in the past, he's not alone.
Ruki glances to his right, looking at Reita.
The tall blond is leaning against the building like he doesn't have a care in the world.
He catches Ruki staring.
Smiling, he winks at his lover.
Making the smaller man laugh.
"You really are something. You know that?"
"Oh yeah? What am I?" he smirks, moving to stand in front him.
"Besides mine?" Ruki smirks back.
"That's enough for me," he leans in.
Ruki meets him halfway.
Loving the way Reita's lips feel against his.
The bassist lingers.
Giving Ruki dozens of small kisses.
They move apart as Kai and Miyavi walk up.
Kai smiles, greeting both with a cheery "good morning."
Myv just grins as he leans against the wall.
Almost mimicking Reita's earlier pose.
Neither ask any questions, content to wait until Uruha and Aoi arrive.
Aoi's not as reserved when they show up.
Practically knocking Reita over while asking: "Did you talk to your folks? How'd it go? What did they say?"
Rapid-firing his questions.
Laughing, Reita gives him a shove.
"Do you mind? Yeah, I did. Everything's cool. Would you guys like to help Ruki move in?"
"Just like that?" Kai asks.
Reita gives a half-shrug.
"Spill it," Uruha pushes.
"Basically I asked and he said yes."
"Details, man. Give us the details," Uruha grins.
Reita rolls his eyes, sighing as he half-ass gives in to Uruha's demands.
"I explained how important this is. To Ruki and to me. I told my dad that it's really the only solution we could all be happy with."
"There are plenty of other options. I wouldn't HAVE to move in with you," Ruki reminds him.
"True," Uruha says, butting in. "I'm sure my mom would let Ruki stay with us for a while."
Reita shakes his head.
"For a while doesn't cut it. He needs a place to stay until we graduate."
"Moving around -would- add stress. And that's the one thing none of us need any more of," Kai agrees. "But there are still other options. Like trying to convince Ruki's dad."
"That's about as likely as me graduating head-of-the-class," Ruki points out.
Reita turns back to his love, taking both of his hands.
"I told them that we'll be sharing a place after graduation anyway. So why be difficult and force you to live somewhere else? It's not like there isn't plenty of room at our house. It really is the best solution. I know it. You know it. And my parents know it."
Ruki couldn't help smiling up at him.
"Did you even give them a chance to say 'no'? Or did you just launch into all the reasons 'why' this is a good idea?"
"My money'd be on the second option," Miyavi finally joins the conversation.
"Why would I give them a chance to object? That doesn't make any sense."
"Maybe not. But it would've been nice for you to listen to what they really think about all of this," Kai suggests.
"I already know what they think," Ruki tries not to scowl.
Reita wraps his arms around the small vocalist.
"No, you don't. You think you know. But you're wrong. My parents don't dislike you."
Ruki scoffs.
"Come on, baby. You know my mom likes you."
"But your dad doesn't," Ruki counters.
"Give him time sweetheart. He'll come around. You'll see."
"And in the meantime, what? Live under his roof? Waiting for him to get nasty with me?"
"I told you. He's not going to do anything or say anything to cause us any problems. Hell, he even suggested we stop by his lawyer's office and get something that says it's OK for us to play at the club. Just in case your dad tries to cause problems there."
"No shit?" Aoi asks.
Sounding almost as surprised as Ruki looks.
"Yeah. 'No shit'," Reita laughs. "My dad has suddenly transformed into a caring parent. Who knew?"
Ruki shakes his head.
Not believing this new development.
Or maybe just not trusting it.
"So the two of you get to start your life of quasi-married bliss today," Aoi smiles cheekily.
"Ha-ha. You are so funny. How can Uruha stand it?" Ruki asks sarcastically.
The first bell rings, stopping their conversation.
"Ok, so we meet back here and head to the lawyers right after school," Kai says as he takes Miyavi's hand.
Turning to leave, Aoi's voice stops them.
"What happened to you?" he asks, touching Miyavi's arm.
"Huh?" Miyavi looks at him in confusion.
"You're limping. What happened?" Aoi asks again.
Kai looks away, trying to hide a smile.
"Nothin' happened," Myv answers, also not meeting Aoi's eyes.
"Ah. So you didn't fall and hurt something? Like your ass?" Aoi teases.
"No," Miyavi snarls, "I didn't fall and hurt my ass. Not that it's any of your business anyway."
"Hey, you're my friend. Can't I be concerned?"
"Sure you can. But I don't think that's why you're asking."
"Why else would I ask then?" Aoi replies, trying to look innocent.
"Oh, I dunno. Maybe cuz you're a pervert."
"And what's perverted about you falling?" Aoi smirks back at him. "Oh wait. You said you didn't fall, right? And since you're the one that brought up my so-called perverted-ness, something else must have happened. Something you don't want us to know."
Aoi taps his chin with his finger.
Acting like he's thinking this thru seriously.
But 'Aoi' and 'serious' are two things that don't go together very often.
"All of this secrecy makes me wonder. What did you two do after the rest of us left last night?"
Kai smirks as a blush tints Miyavi's cheeks.
An almost evil cackle erupts from Aoi.
"It can't be," he turns to Uruha. "You don't suppose Miyavi let Kai...," he drifts off with a smile. "Do you?"
Uruha shakes his head, smiling back.
"What they do or don't do isn't really any of our business."
"Thank You," Miyavi almost sighs, turning again to try leaving the others.
"But," Aoi protests.
"No buts," Kai cuts him off, surprising everyone. "Get to class. And try to learn something useful?"
"That's what I AM doing," Aoi smiles cheekily at him. "But you two aren't cooperating!"
"Kai's right. We should get to class," Reita says, smiling at the others as he starts walking away, Ruki's hand held firmly in his.
Uruha takes the hint, grabbing Aoi's hand and dragging him off.
The black-haired man protesting the whole time.
~~
"Well, that was anti-climatic," Aoi grins as the group makes their way to Ruki's house.
"You'll get plenty of drama at my place," Ruki grumbles.
Reita's arm tightens around him where they're sit in the backseat of Aoi's car.
"That's what we're here for. To keep the drama to a minimum."
The meeting with the lawyer had been rather uneventful.
He had the papers drawn up, ready to sign.
He'd also called the club where the boys played.
It seems the owner had also thought ahead.
He already had papers allowing him to have underage bands playing there.
And he had almost from the start.
Prompting the lawyer to comment that he was a 'smart man'.
Aoi eases the car against the curb in front of Ruki's house.
Kai and Miyavi parking behind them as they get out.
The four wait for them on the sidewalk before they all head for the front door.
Ruki opens the door, the others quietly following behind.
Without a word, he heads for his room.
A voice stops them.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Ruki's father snaps as he leans against a doorframe.
"Just getting my stuff," Ruki answers, not looking at the man.
"Oh really? So there's something important enough in this house to make you finally come home? I'm getting tired of all your goofing off."
When Ruki doesn't respond, he turns to the others.
"And I suppose you're here for moral support? The boy can't even face his father alone," he snorts in disgust.
Reita takes a deep breath, closing his eyes and mentally counting to ten.
"We're not here to cause any trouble, sir," Kai answers calmly.
"Of course not," the man spits out, "You're his friends after all. Freaks and cowards, the lot of you."
Nearly identical growls come from Reita, Aoi, and Miyavi.
But otherwise the three manage to keep quiet.
Content to let Kai handle things.
But Ruki's had enough.
"That's right. We're all freaks. Freaks that enjoy dressing up and making music. But that's a hell of a lot better than going in every day to a job you hate. And then coming home at night and taking all your frustrations out on your family. I'd rather wear make-up than a suit any day."
Before he can say anything else, Reita stops him, hand on his arm.
"Come on Ruki. Let's just get your stuff and leave."
Giving his father one more furious look, the small man turns.
Ruki walks into his room, going straight for the dresser.
Opening the drawers one at a time, he starts tossing their contents onto his bed.
The others move into the room behind him.
Going for the closet, the desk, anywhere.
Gathering his belongings together.
His father follows, blocking the door.
"You ungrateful little punk! You've had it easy until now. But not anymore. You're only leaving this house to go to school. No more band. No more hanging out with these losers. Have you got that?"
Ruki stops, turning to face him.
"I'm not quiting. Ever."
"While you live under my roof...," he starts.
Only to have Ruki cut him off.
"Take a look around. What do you think is going on here?"
At his father's confused look, he continues, "I'm moving out. That should make you happy. You won't have to deal with the disappointment of having me for a son anymore. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get some bags to put my stuff into."
Without another word he pushes past his father.
Returning a few minutes later with a handful of large plastic bags.
He doesn't look at the man again, he just starts piling things into the bags.
Snapping out of it, Reita moves to help.
And then the others join them.
Uruha smiling as he hands Ruki an empty bag.
Taking the nearly full one from his friends hands.
With six sets of hands, the room get's cleared in practically no time.
No one really noticing when Ruki's father had left.
And none of them caring either.
Taking one last look around the room, Ruki sighs.
"Are you going to miss it, baby?" Reita asks, wrapping his arms around the smaller man.
"Yes and no. This is where I spent most of my time growing up. And yet...," he drifts off.
"You always knew you'd be leaving sometime." Reita finishes for him.
"Yeah," Ruki says softly, leaning back against his lover. "But all the memories weren't pleasant ones either."
"I'm sorry," Reita whispers, kissing the top of Ruki's head.
The smaller man turns in his arms.
"Take me home?"
The tall blond nods, smiling.
