But why only one? Why not a few hundred people that are absolutely completely and totally perfect for someone? Why not a few thousand, given the 6-odd billion? And given that perfect people tend to share one's interest and there's internet-ful of places to meet folks, the odds are better than ever.

there's only one who is exactly, 100%, etc, etc, see above
there are a whole bunch that are nearly indistinguishable
and an even larger number that are really really close
and an even larger number that are tolerable

I don't buy it. As far as I'm concerned, either there's none because it's impossible, or if it's possible at all there'd have to be several. Exactly one (and the same one as you grow and change, at that), that makes no sense.
