Over here, most of the people do gift exchanging (in a more excitable form for adults; witty secret santa) on December 5th for Sinterklaas. There's a whole month to prepare for it, since he arrives in the Netherlands from Spain in November. The gifts are given on December.
Some people buy into the commercialised Christmas, but it's much different. To most, Christmas is a good feast with your family. We have two days of Christmas even. Today is the first one, tomorrow is the second. For us, personally, we're eating dinner with Seb's sister and boyfriend tonight, then tomorrow is the big family dinner. Its... Much more humble and endearing.
Besides, there's also entire cultures that exist in the world that aren't Christian and don't celebrate Christmas.
