J escorts his new drinking partner to the nearby bar. Inside it sports a sleek and simple interior. There's the perfect amount of light for strangers meeting up. Not enough to see each other's faces clearly if you've got much alcohol in your system.

J turns around to glance around at the man. "What'll you have? Or will I surprise you?"

"What, you're buying?" Who's he to say no to free booze? "Kentucky rye or bourbon, then. And beer." Leaving his so far unintroduced bar-buddy to fetch the drinks, Ford stalks away to find a table. He selects one in the corner further in.

"This round, yeah," J says with a grin. He spends minimal time flirting with the bartender then returns to slide the two glasses and beer bottle onto the table. His own drink shimmers blue.

He sits down and takes a sip. "So. Penance, you say?"

"Penance, I say," he confirms, swallowing down half of his bourbon at once. Then he reaches for the beer and leans back in his chair. "Sins of youth. Chalked up a debt I'm still paying for."

"Who's making you pay? Sins of youth are obligatory. You learn from them and you get a beating at them soon after. But you don't pay penance for them."
