004- [Phone] Is this real life? (50%)

Jul 04, 2011 03:15

[Omi has been having a Very. Bad. Day. One second, he's waking up, anticipating a super fun day filled with barbecues and fireworks. And the next, he's being assailed with images of assassinations and squealing fangirls in a flower shop. Which is silly, because he'd always had such a peaceful life in Mayfield. Right? He shakes his head, trying to ( Read more... )

[Like a good father, Ken has come to wake Omi up with news of breakfast. At least he still had the presence of mind to cook and not let Miakis do it.]

Oy! You up?

[Jolted out of his thoughts, there's a pause before he answers.]

Yeah, Dad, I'm up. I was just about to come down.

[Dad....? Was that right? Of course it was. Why did it feel wrong somehow...?]

[Dad? Why had that startled him so.

No. Wait. Omi was his friend, not his son.

But...he clearly remembered Miakis giving birth to that little bundle of loud joy...

what the fucking hell.

Don't swear.]

Well hurry up, your breakfast is getting cold.

R-right.

[Looking at Ken now, it's as if two movies are playing in his head at the same time. One displays happy childhood memories of birthday parties, fishing trips, family outings. All taking place in the greatest town in the world, Mayfield.

The greatest lie in the world....

The other half of his mind is frantically trying to remind him of another life in a different country, a different time. He remembers Ken not as a father, but as a friend and colleague. He remembers going out on missions together. In fact, Mamoru had planned most of them. No! No, his name was Omi. Except it's not. And the whole assassin thing is silly anyway....

Right...? So, yeah, Ken. He's kind of tuned out.]

I had a weird dream, but it wasn't really all that bad.

[Yeah, she's blushing.]

Other than that, I feel pretty normal.

[He jumps slightly, surprised out of his jumbled thoughts. Oh, it's just Lyon....]

Hey, Sis. Good Morning...

[A dream? That's what he feels like. Except he can't seem to wake up from his dream. Not completely. But let's not worry little sister. Except she's not his sister. The only sister he ever had was Ouka and she's... No, don't think about it. Easier not to.]

Are you going to the fireworks later too, Mamoru? Did you find a date?

A date? N-no, I just....

[Honestly, dating never when well for any member of Weiss.

........

What the hell was Weiss? No wait.... That was.... he and Ken used to...

Except Ken is his father. Right? No, no that's wrong! Whay is it so hard to remember. He shakes his head as if to clear it.]

I, um.... I might not be going to the fireworks this year....

Mom....

[No, no that's not right. She's not his Mother she's... She's also stuck here, in Mayfield. And now it wants them to forget.]

Miakis. Something.... Something's wrong. I can't seem to remember who I am for more than a few minutes at a time.

It feels like I'm being droned, but... I still remember everything. [She shakes her head and groans.] I know the town is just messing with us again, but -- all of these memories...

Same here. Maybe whatever causes the droning is malfunctioning somehow....

[Actually, it could be something like that. If the droning process is technological in nature, then even a power fluctuation could cause it to- wonder when Dad's gonna fire up the grill....? Wait. No. What had he just been thinking about? Hadn't it been important. No, not if he couldn't even remember it. It was probably nothing. His expression goes from thoughtful to confused.]

S- sorry Mom, what was I just saying?
