I haven't written in here in forever, but I was posting my dolls story on DOA and figured I'd post it here as well cause it amuses me.
The Great Prophesy of the Faye
“There will come a day when the Great Stars align with a full moon. On this day, a maiden will give birth to twin sons, the first pair to contain the blood of both courts since they split. One boy shall be the prince of the Unseelie Court and his brother shall be prince of the Seelie. One can destroy a court and the other could unit them, with all that may entail. But, in the shadows there stands a third figure. Who this figure is and where their allegiance lies is unclear. If they step out of the shadows, I can not sya what will happen to the courts.”
Sunnie
A witch with no knowledge of her power, Shannon had been held captive by the church since her birth. Those in charge so feared what she could become that she was hidden in all ways possible from those outside and isolated from those within the church unless she was being ‘educated.’ But, Shannon had a strong spirit to go with her strong power and she refused to succumb to fear and self-pity; instead, she chose to dream of the day she would be free. When she turned 17 she broke through those holy doors that imprisoned her and embraced the world outside. Introducing herself to Keera, the first person she befriended outside the church, Shannon changed her name to Sunnie. Keera would be more than her first true friend, she would also open the doors to Sunnie’s power and to the one place the church would have trouble touching her, the world of the faye.
Dolan
Energetic and mischievous, Dolan, with his red-streaked black hair and ready grin was the ideal prince for the Unseelie Court, even at the young age of five when his father came to find him in the Seelie Court. From the moment the King brought they boy into the Unseelie Court, Brahe, the captain of the Unseelie Army, protected him. Brahe was ever careful of his charge, allowing the Prince to associate with members of their court, but never behave too familiar with any of them. Despite this oppression, or perhaps because of it, the boy grew to be quite the flirt and tease, and always allowed his opinions to be heard by anyone, in whatever means necessary. He was deeply adored and feared by all in the court, and seemed well poised to play his part in The Prophesy. But, what few realized was that he was guided solely by his own desire to have his brother by his side. He cared nothing of the fates of the courts of the role he was supposed to play in bringing about those fates.
Gannon
Sweet, innocent and naïve, Gannon was raised to be the Prince of the Seelie Court because The Prophesy deemed it so. His was a life of isolated protection, for Landar trusted no one in the Seelie Court to be near his beloved Prince and for their part, most of the Seelie Court feared the boy and whished him dead. Gannon was blond and beautiful; breathtaking even by the standards of the Seelie Court, and most felt that this had to be some kind of enchantment to entrap them and force them to his will. His only friend in the court, outside of Landar, was the boy who would have been the prince if not for him. Though Gannon love3d his friend and his guard hound and enjoyed the beauty of the Seelie Court, he couldn’t help but be lonely and long for his brother.
Brahe
Red. The color of passion, the color of love. The color of blood, life-giving, soul-searing blood. Some worship the power of a single drop while others carelessly spill gallons on the battlefield. But, to Brahe blood was neither worshipped nor discarded. It was a trophy, a sign of this triumph, a sign that his adversary had been weaker. When a battle ended, he gloried in his victory and his victim’s blood. A sip of that warm, sweet liquid to show tribute to a worthy foe, and then he would soak his cap in the blood till it shown red and wet. He was never without his cap and there were those that claimed it was never dry. He was The Red Cap, one of the most feared of all the faye. Until the day his king brought home the young prince of the Unseelie Court and the feared Red Cap was reduced to the position of nursemaid.
Landar
Wolf. Dog. Half-breed. Low-blood. Unworthy and Unwanted. As the son of a Seelie woman and one of the white hounds of the Golden Court, Landar had heard many insults after the court discovered him. Once he saw them murder his mother for the crime of loving him, those insults had little effect. After the Seelies expelled him, he went to the Unseelies. The early years in those dark halls had been no different than life in the light ones, but after half a century he caught the eye of the Red Cap. Brahe saw passed Landar’s pale beauty to his full potential. Thousands of years have passed since he became second in power, and there was no question when the King asked Brahe to send someone to guard Gannon in the Seelie Court, that it had to be Landar. Brahe trusted only him and Landar could deny Brahe nothing.
Anom & Haley
Once upon a time, he had been the feared bringer of draughts, famines and plagues; the most powerful of all the faye. Back then, he had been the Nuckelavee. ‘Once upon a time’ ended when caused the death of the young daughter of a powerful witch. When the child, Haley, took her last breath, her mother placed a curse upon him to rob him of his powers. All spells have their price, the stronger the spell the moor dear the cost to the person who cast it. The cost of this curse was Haley’s soul. In casting the curse, the witch called Anom to her, and he saw the price of the spell before the witch did. Reacting without thought, he tried to save the child’s soul, but succeeded only in anchoring it to the toy her dead hands still clutched. That act saved him some of his powers and cursed him with the girl’s presence for eternity. Now, the once unbeatable Nuckelavee is the 3rd warrior of the Unseelie Court and is often seen talking to a stuffed toy no one else can hear speak.
Quinn
There was at ime the farthest reaches of the human race just overlapped with the lands of the Giant’s Court. Back then they were a court to be feared. The were larger than humans with numbers as great as their physical stature and they were as powerful as the sidhe courts with an immunity to many of the faye’s powers. Quinn grew up in the height of the giant’s court and was widely respected there. Giants respected height, but they respected strength more. Though Quinn came from a line that was not much taller than humans he was never teased or ridiculed; he showed his strength from a very young age. Quinn was so strong that he every race had a name for him. Among the giants he was ‘Scáil an bháis.’ To the sidhe he was ‘The Dark Death’ and to the humans he was ‘The Jack-in-Irons.’ When humans’ reach expanded and the old magic began to fade, the giants’ court crumbled and those within it were left with three choices: hide, fight the humans or join the sidhe. Most chose to fight and died. Quinn was smarter than that and quickly showed allegiance to the Unseelie King. Brahe respected the giant’s power and intelligence, and trusted him more than most sidhe.
Keera
Peach skin and pointed ears equals half human. Purple hair and eyes equals half Seelie blood. Both were signs that Keera did not belong in the small Irish village she was born in during the summer of 210BC, nor the Unseelie Court where she found herself 8 years later. Few Unseelie paid any attention to the little half-breed even after her powers as a seer were revealed. Things changed for her, though, after she had “The Great Prophesy.” Though other seers had The Prophesy as well, no one could see it as clearly as she could. The Unseelie King, realizing the strength of her ‘sight’ adopted her and made her queen in name, until he had a true child. Centuries passed before the King brought Dolan from the Seelie Court, and though Keera had loved the boy long before his conception, she fled the court and went into hiding soon after his arrival. The moment she saw Sunnie asleep on the ground before her, though, she knew that the time to return to the court was near at hand.
River
A Cat. A witch’s familiar. River was centuries old and all of that time was spent in the service of a single family. Sunnie was his latest mistress and he had spent every moment since her birth in search of her, unable to detect the slightest trace of her while she resided within the church walls. He knew the moment she escaped, but it wasn’t until her powers fully awoke within the Unseelie Sithen that he could locate her. Using his magical bond he was able to slip undeterred into the sithen and took on a human form to approach her. In short time, Sunnie became the most beloved witch River had ever served and he became her best friend and most important teacher.
Cavin
Brownie. Today the word brings to mind images of chocolaty desserts and little girls in brown, badge covered vests; both a far cry from the small, ugly faye who were the original bearers of the name. Being a true Brownie these days was much easier than it had been in the past. Unless your beloved mistress runs away and you are forced to follow her. Which leads to your getting caught by the renegade Unseelie Queen who instantly comments on the fact that you look more sidhe than Brownie; which just happens to be your biggest insecurity. And then, the two females drag you back to the Unseelie sithen, where your mistress, now knowing of your existence, constantly calls you out of your comfortable hiding to keep her and her leprechaun company. Yeah, it was easier being a Brownie these days.
Oran
Leprechaun - just saying the word brings to mind images of tiny men, red hair, green clothes, 4-leaf clovers and pots of gold at the ends of rainbows. What strange twists occurred to alter our images from that of the leprechauns? And what torment for poor Oran who fit these images a little too closely. Among the slaugh he was constantly ridiculed for his short height and red hair, and his constant attempts to change his appearance only increased their scorn. It was no wonder when the young Unseelie Prince rescued him from death that Oran willingly agreed to be the boy’s servant and never again return to the slaugh.
