Because really folks, nothing is quite as much fun as playing a game wherein you get to sexually assault a young girl and possibly even impregnate her then demand she get an abortion.  You can even invite your friends to join you for the adventure!  Fun for the whole family.  Oh come on, ladies!  What's the big deal?  Stop being so sensitive!

Yes, I heard about this yesterday.

Horrifying.

Great, isn't it? Amazon only pulled it last Feb (it's been around for about four years).

Anyone who thinks it is acceptable to treat the abuse of part of its population as entertainment is shit. Like: would it be fun if you had a game where you were a Klansman? Because I don't see any glaring differences, except in the selection of vulnerable people that get terrorised because men "need to let off steam".

The worst part is that these have been around for a hell of a lot longer than that. It's very easy to say "Oh, Japan," but the main audience for these is in the States. (I learn all sorts of horrible things that are absolutely impossible to unlearn. This is what I got for agreeing to being a guest at one of the Dallas A-Kon conventions back in 2000.)

Dear god, I loathe the gaming industry with the same gut level hatred I have for the porn industry.

I don't blame you in the slightest. That's what gets me about this: the games are, by all accounts, absolutely horrible. They're slapped together by enthusiasts who've learned just enough programming to be dangerous. Until this news story came up, they had a worldwide market that could probably be measured in the hundreds. I'd be seriously surprised if any of them ever made a profit. Yet they still keep being made.

I'm serious. Banning won't do it. Vicious humiliation and laughter is the only way to get rid of these damn things.

To its credit, Something Awful.com has been doing hentai reviews for the last eight years or so. When I say "review", I mean "mercilessly mock anybody buying these pieces of shit", with a rating system that ranges from zero to -50. I'm thinking that this is the real way to go: instead of banning the games, just openly mocking and belittling their purchasers until even Klingon speakers laugh and point at them should cause the collapse of the whole hentai games market.

I wasn't aware that "hentai" specifically referred to this sort of violent animated "pornography", but thought it instead was applied to all Anime "pr0n". Or, am I wrong?

The way I'd understood, "hentai" originally applied to the violent stuff, particularly the famed "tentacle rape" material. It's since then been applied rather indiscriminately, the way most erotica is listed as "porn". That's the way I've understood it, anyway: I've had neither the time nor the motivation to research it further. (Sorry if I sound flippant, but I really don't. Cataloging particular kinks in bad hentai games is much like cataloging the quality of Sy Fy Channel "Original Movies". I like to refer to both exercises as "taste-testing dog shit.")

Oh, you're probably right, actually. I've always been under the impression that "hentai" was any sort of anime porn, but then I'm not all that familiar with the genre (thank ye gods).
