The Commerce Department has
lost or had stolen over 1100 laptops since 2001. Yahoo says the department uses over 30k laptops, so thats like 3.5% of their inventory. That's pretty high. Most of the laptops were part of the Census Division. So hmm. . .wonder if they were field laptops and if they hired field workers on a temporary basis to use them. If so, I have a feeling some of the laptops were simply not returned, in other words were stolen, by Commerce Department employees, which could explain why the sensitive data had not been reportedly used for ill gain. The employees just wanted a free computer and stole them.
Either that or they have a lot of careless employees. . .
