Any private time with your grandmother was special. redbaydreamer September 12 2011, 16:16:38 UTC
One of the things that we have talked about as a family as we deal with my mother's passing is that it was hard to get her all to yourself. She was constantly in motion, always doing something. I remember that if I wanted to talk to her I brought my kids over to her house and sat with at least one in my lap while she was weeding or otherwise working in the yard. I could get a certain amount of her attention that way. I think she was always a quiet person. That was hard to see when my father was alive because he was so talkative. You tended to think of them both as talkative because you rarely saw each of them without the other. As my mom got older she got quieter and after my father died she became really quiet. It is hard not to look back through a lens of remembrance and wonder how much of that was depression because she missed my father so much. I know I treasure the times in these last few years when I could get her to talk. It didn't happen very often.
