Looong post~
Totally meant to put this up yesterday, but RL (read: going to the pub) got in the way. x-posted to sew_loli

Project Title: Cushion Heart Pendant
Short Project Description: A large heart shaped pendant with a motif and lace trim. :D
Projected Deadline: -
Pattern(s) Used: -
Challenges or obstacles: Slipstitching, awkwardness with lace.

This one was another case of 'go to the fabric shop - see a fabric - OHMYGOD I need to make this!' I get those projects a lot. In this case, the fabric in question was the Rose Bouquet Fabric by Joel Dewberry (you can buy the print here, but I can't find it in my colourway. A similar print in my colourway is here), and a pack of Victorian-esque embellishments by Craftime. I also found some lavender lace in the needlecraft shop (the fabric/craft shops in my town do 3m ribbon/lace bundles for £1/50p).

This was really easy to make; I just made a heart shaped cushion, attached the embellishment (my silicon glue dried up so it's fastened with a toothpick!), and slipstitched the lace around the outside. Took about an hour and a half, but would probably take around forty minutes on a sewing machine because I suck at handstitching like woah. The result was this;

A close up of the relief;

And one of the lace (because it's really pretty!);

Project Title: Cushion Heart Pendant
Project Start Date: 09.2.12
Planned Finish Date: -
Actual Finish Date: 09.2.12
Did you make changes from original plan?: Nope. Well, except for the toothpick.
Did you discover something you want to share?: The really pretty fabric!
How happy are you with the result?: About 85%. I forgot to gather the lace 'round the curvy bits, so it doesn't sit properly. I'll remember to do that next time.

Project Title: Learning to make lace!
Short Project Description: More of a hobby than an actual project. When I'm good enough, I want to be able to make some lace patches for my other projects. :D
Projected Deadline: -
Pattern(s) Used: Anything I can find, but so far I've used this.
Materials Needed: Bobbins, and thousands of miles of suitable thread.
Challenges or obstacles: Time, motivation, workspace, concentration - just RL in general.

It depresses me how few lacemakers there are left. I thought it would be really cool to make my own lace for my dresses (or at least design the pattern). So far, I can do a cloth stitch (and therefore also a half stitch). The first sample I made was in purple wool (the only thing I had to hand), so it doesn't look like lace as we know it. But the basic stitch is there! ^.^

Close up of the stitches;

Next I tried making a sample out of normal sewing cotton (I have two reels of disgusting salmon coloured stuff that I've had my whole life and never used). As you can see, I lack the correct equipment (I'm using pencils as bobbins!);

Woah, super blurry. :|

I'll finish that sample soon. I have the week off college, so I'll probably do some at some point. I also need to contact my town's
Lacemaker's Guild. :)

Project Title: Afternoon Tea Print JSK
Short Project Description: A JSK with a print of my own design. :D
Projected Deadline: Uhh, none really. It's gonna be light colours, so let's say summer.
Pattern(s) Used: I'm not sure yet. Probably this one.
Materials Needed: I'll need to get my fabric printed (yay!). I'll also need to draft a pattern. And I'll need a concealed zip. I think I found the right lace, though. It's kinda like the colour of coffee cake. :3
Challenges or obstacles: The sheer lack of any of the required resources, and my congenital fear of phoning people (I'll probably have to phone the printing company), or asking for help (if I use the college's digital printer). Also my not having a pattern for a JSK, nor having ever attempted to make one. At least I have an overlocker now, though.

No specific update on this one, I'm merely registering the idea with the hope of making myself follow through on it. My local fabric shop has a really nice coffee themed fabric at the moment, but it's a really heavy sacking material which would be horrific to wear, but it did give me the idea for my own print. Expect a colour draft sometime soon. :D

Thank you for reading (if you made it all the way down here!) <3
