A simple coloring technique that yields brighter, more vivid colors. Very very easy to do!
Go from this kind of image:
to this:
STEP ONE: Find image. Let's use this pretty one of Cintia Dicker and friend.
STEP TWO: Duplicate your background layer.
STEP THREE: Go to Image >> Adjustments >> Hue/Saturation. Add about +70 to the saturation.
Click OK. Your image should now be really colorful and kinda scary. No worries. We'll fix it.
STEP FOUR: Go to Image >> Adjustments >> Shadow/Highlight. Adjust settings as you see fit. Depends on the image, but I suggest high amount of shadows. As much as you can get without the image looking TOO funky.
STEP FIVE: Add a layer mask. Go to layer >> Add layer mask >> Reveal All. Your layer window should look like this:
STEP SIX: Select the layer mask. Then go to Image >> Apply Image. Change your adjustments as seen below:
Change the duplicated layer to soft light. And voila! Perfecto. Flatten the image.
Crop it and you're all set.
This creates a much better effect than if you just set the duplicated layer to softlight rather then fiddling with the saturation. It's a lot less colorful:
