Sungmin was picking out his outfit. Siwon had finally got the nerve to ask him out after months of them dancing around each other and he was going to make sure this was a good night out. Dinner. Nice restaurant. Good food. Classy music. Playful banter. This was going to be good dammit.

When his phone rang for the first time he dutifully ignored it. It was the generic ring tone so it wasn’t anyone important. The ring tone stopped and Sungmin stepped into his dress pants, pulling them up. They were brand new; Siwon had been with him and Zhou Mi when he had bought them. He was ninety percent sure they were the reason Siwon finally asked him out; he looked good in them.

His phone rang again and he grabbed it, annoyed that the same person was calling him so often, and then concerned that maybe it was Siwon, and he had something come up, and he couldn’t contact him. Sungmin shook his head, knocking those thoughts out as he answered the phone.

“Hello?” He paused as his manager’s voice came through the line; it was hard to make out with all the noise in the background. “What was that?”

“They need you to come in tonight for the play. I told them you would. You have one hour to get here and get in makeup.”

Sungmin’s mouth went dry and he tried to explain that he had plans but his manager wasn’t listening and Sungmin wanted to throw his phone across the room in frustration when he was finished with the call. He stripped out of his nice clothes and threw on sweat pants and a pullover. Maybe they could go out after, he though, contemplating packing his nice clothes. He sighed because he knew that wouldn’t work.

He was leaving the apartment, looking at his phone, trying to figure out how he was going to tell Siwon. He really hoped he wasn’t already there.

“Sungmin?”

He looked up. Siwon was approaching him, dressed in as nice a outfit he was wearing before: pants pressed and a deep blue button up shirt with his jacket thrown over his shoulder. Sungmin swallowed and stopped.

“Hey Siwon. I was just about to call you.” He was muttering and his words stopped completely when he saw the CD Siwon was fiddling with in his hands. “What’s that?”

Siwon let out a nervous chuckle. “Well.” He rubbed the back of his head, mussing his hair just right before offering the CD to Sungmin. “Flowers seemed overrated, and I didn’t want to get you another stuffed animal, so I got you a CD instead. For, a first date gift.”

Sungmin stared at the gift, mentally cursing his manager. “You. You didn’t have to.”

Siwon laughed again. “I wanted to. Do you not like it?”

Sungmin shook his head, as he took the CD and looked it over. “No. I do like it. But. Siwon.” He sighed. “I can’t go out tonight.” Siwon’s face dropped and Sungmin quickly continued. “I need to go play understudy for tonight’s show. Manager-hyung promised them I could; I didn’t volunteer!” Siwon’s face relaxed and he smiled.

“Oh.” He reached out his hand to take Sungmin’s bag and then pulled his hand back, laughing. “I’ll drive you? And wait backstage if you don’t mind? We can go somewhere else after your done?”

Sungmin wanted to reach forward and hug Siwon. He shook his head though. “I think after the play the only place I’ll want to go is home.”

“Then I’ll drive you home.” Siwon said as they started to walk to his car.

Sungmin smiled.

The date was going pretty well, up until Siwon accidently knocked the bottle of rather expensive wine over. They both stared, unable to move as the wine bottle crashed onto the white linen table cloth, sloshed over it, staining as it went, and then it hit Sungmin’s lap. And his new dress pants.

They both shot up and Siwon reached for Sungmin, cloth napkin in hand as he began to blot the stain. He was apologizing while Sungmin just stood there and the waitress came around, offering her own apologies as she picked up the bottle and left them there while she went and got them a new bottle. Sungmin finally reached down, grabbing Siwon’s wrist before he looked down at Siwon on his knees in front of him.

“You don’t need to do that.” Sungmin said gently as he pried Siwon’s hand away from cleaning his thighs.

“But.” Siwon didn’t seem to know what to say as he examined Sungmin’s stained pants; they were charcoal coloured so the stain showed just a bit. “You just bought them.” He finished lamely.

Sungmin chuckled and sat back down, pushing Siwon to get back to his own seat. “It’s okay. They’re just pants.”

Siwon didn’t relax entirely at that and he sat awkwardly across from Sungmin even after the waitress brought the new bottle over. Sungmin poured their glasses for them and Siwon looked at his hands, cowed.

Sungmin let out a sigh, still smiling. “It’s not the end of the world.”

Siwon nodded. “I know. But this was supposed to be perfect.”

“It’s okay. We can always try again next Friday.” Sungmin looked him in the eyes when Siwon finally looked up. “Or, we could try again tomorrow?” Siwon’s face lit up and Sungmin laughed. “But let’s still finish tonight, alright?”

Siwon nodded and offered Sungmin some of the appetizer.

Sungmin hated crashers. Even when the crashers were some of his best friends.

“Oh you guys are going to see a movie? Can I tag along?” Eunhyuk didn’t seem to possess that thing called tact, or even reason as he bounced up and down, before bolting to get his shoes on, calling out that they were all going to see a movie.

Siwon looked at Sungmin worriedly. “I hope they don’t think I’m paying for all of them.”

Sungmin patted Siwon’s forearm as he tried not to let his features darken too much as Eunhyuk, Shindong and Donghae all gathered in the front hall, waiting for him and Siwon.

“We don’t want to be late!” Donghae chimed, waving the keys before Shindong took them.

“You aren’t driving.” He shot Eunhyuk a look. “Neither are you.”

Sungmin let out a sigh and followed Siwon out of the apartment. Next time he just wouldn’t announce their plans in front of any of the other members.

“I’m sick.” Sungmin said as he answered the door, dressed in green pajamas and holding a blanket around him.

Siwon’s face did that cute thing that Sungmin liked where his eyebrows danced around before finally it settled on a pout. “Oh.” He said, and Sungmin wanted to hug him, coughing and runny nose be damned.

“You can come in though? I was watching a movie.” Siwon looked like he wanted to argue as he looked Sungmin over. “I won’t cuddle up to you.”

“No.” Siwon said suddenly. “No it’s okay! I’ll watch the movie with you.” He pushed his way passed Sungmin into the apartment and Sungmin shuffled aside, blanket still wrapped around him.

Siwon kicked off his shoes, and then bent down to straighten them. Sungmin watched, sniffing because he couldn’t stop his nose from running and when Siwon stood he let himself be dragged back towards his room and plopped on the bed. Siwon fussed over him for a good minute, tucking the blanket around Sungmin before settling down beside him, arm stiff at his side like a barrier between them.

Sungmin bit his lip. He wanted to tell Siwon he could put his arm around him, they’d gotten to that point, when they’d seen the movie together, but Sungmin guessed him being sick was a deterrent. He fumbled with the remote and unpaused the movie.

“Don’t laugh.” He said lamely, pulling his knees up to his chest. “I’m in a sappy mood.”

Siwon looked at the screen, he didn’t recognize the film, but he couldn’t understand how this swordfight between a masked man and, did the subtitles say “Spaniard?”, could possibly be a sappy movie.

“I won’t. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.”

Sungmin buried half of his face into his arms, hiding his mouth as he watched the rest of the swordfight.

Around the time the princess - Siwon hadn’t figured out if the subtitles had translated her name wrong because “Buttered Dish” sounded wrong - and the pirate - as the subtitles called him - escaped from the forest, Sungmin had begun to shake from cold. Siwon reached over and got another, heavier blanket and padded it around him. Sungmin gave a chattered “thanks” as Siwon pulled him down onto his shoulder and ran his fingers tentatively through his hair.

He frowned at how warm Sungmin was but didn’t ask him if he had taken any medicine because Sungmin could take care of him. He brushed Sungmin’s cheek and finally rested his hand on his collarbone, holding Sungmin against his side.

The shivering stopped soon after and Sungmin relaxed, legs uncurling so he could lay more comfortably against Siwon’s side on the small bed. He moved the blanket with his chin so his head was resting on Siwon’s chest without support and he smiled at the steady heartbeat.

“This is nice.” Siwon commented, and Sungmin had a strong feeling he wasn’t talking about Wesley being tortured by The Albino.

He hummed and then let out a racking cough. He pulled away from Siwon, upset that their nice moment had been ruined but Siwon followed him, pushing the blankets aside so he could rub his back. When the fit was over Siwon pulled Sungmin back against his chest, wrapping the blankets around him.

“Thank you.” Sungmin muttered, still ashamed at his coughing.

Siwon looked down at him and smiled. “It’s nothing.” He pressed his lips to Sungmin’s hairline.

Sungmin held back his squee and settled in to watch the rest of them film.
