Hal knows he's acting a part, but doesn't realise how much that part is becoming real for him. What does Loki know about what he's doing?

Loki subconsciously "breaking character" on purpose is something that I didn't really mention but yes, there's that too. That's why Coulson's line about lacking conviction was so accurate, and Loki's about satisfaction not being in his nature - it's impossible to pin down one truth about him whereas Hal doesn't shift as much. (Probably because Loki is actually genuinely crazy and Hal isn't.)
