That happened to me about a month ago, except I was in New Zealand and I lost about 50 pics that I couldn't exactly take again :). They look fine on the camera and as thumbnails in Windows, but opening the picture they're all fuckled. I haven't found a solution yet.
How are you pulling the images off the camera? The culprit, in my instance, was a fucked up card reader.
Anyway, I'm connecting my camera straight to the computer. Don't own a card reader yet. I'm thinking I'm need to use one though because even though I get some pictures (and they're fuckled), I don't get all of them. I've tried using their software as well as the camera itself to upload the pics. Same thing every time.
Good thing these aren't important photos. Although Jocelyn's bathtime ones are pretty damn cute.
In your case, the camera actually IS a card reader, and it appears to be misbehaving. Try finding another card reader/camera to read the pictures from. If it works fine, return your camera to the store you bought it from, since it's broken right out of the box :)
